The Meteorologist will collaborate with seasoned underwriters, actuaries, and catastrophe modelers to offer meteorological expertise, conduct quantitative risk evaluations, and provide strategic support for businesses in the United States and globally.

Key responsibilities involve researching and advancing catastrophe modeling methods, assessing natural risks using proprietary or commercial modeling software, as well as open-source data and models, ensuring compliance with corporate capacity guidelines, and delivering timely analyses to inform key stakeholders.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Include the following, (other duties may be assigned):

  • Conduct research by reviewing academic and industry publications, as well as evaluating vendor and open-source models, to support business stakeholders in managing and mitigating peril risks effectively.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand requirements, integrate risk perspectives into vendor models, and establish optimal exposure data practices, with emphasis on extreme weather-related perils like hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires, and floods.
  • Partner with business units to develop consistent peril and hazard underwriting standards and guidelines.
  • Prepare and verify exposure data, claims data, and modeling assumptions for accuracy.
  • Assist in risk quantification using vendor and open-source models; analyze and interpret results, and provide actionable recommendations to stakeholders for informed decision-making.
  • Model, analyze, and validate outputs for portfolio or account submissions.
  • Monitor catastrophe analytics, identify potential issues, and offer recommendations to key stakeholders.
  • Design, implement, and maintain an exposure and reporting dashboard.
  • Provide support for product development, filing processes, and responses to major catastrophe events.
  • Facilitate model adoption and oversee change management processes.
  • Investigate and address modeling inquiries.
  • Drive innovation and enhance internal tools and modeling practices.
  • Compile and share information on perils, catastrophe events, and industry data or reports with key stakeholders within the programs division.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, database, and programming skills (SQL, R, Python, Excel VBA); Shiny or Power BI development experience is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of statistics, insurance, mapping, and GIS.
  • Experience with RMS/AIR models and understanding of modeling framework is preferred.
  • CAT designations (CCRA, CEEM, CSCR), actuarial exams, CPCU exams are a strong plus.
  • Bachelor's degree is required, graduate degree with meteorology focus preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Open and enthusiastic in learning new knowledge, positive and can-do attitude.
  • Self-driven, detail-oriented, and able to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Comfortable working in a cross-function, project-oriented team setting.

Pay Range

$75,000.00 - $81,000.00 Annual

The pay range provided above is made in good faith and based on our lowest and highest annual salary or hourly rate paid for the role and takes into account years of experience required, geography, and/or budget for the role.
