Senior Data Management Professional - Data Product Owner - Research Data Location New York Business Area Data Ref # 10043080

Description & Requirements

Bloomberg runs on data. Our products are fueled by powerful information. We combine data and context to paint the whole picture for our clients, around the clock - from around the world. In Data, we are responsible for delivering this data, news and analytics through innovative technology - quickly and accurately. We apply problem-solving skills to identify innovative workflow efficiencies, and we implement technology solutions to enhance our systems, products and processes.

The Content Acquisition (CA) team is an integral part of the Data department. We are responsible for managing, acquiring, and integrating content and data from exchanges, brokers, sell-side, buy-side, and other types of providers to drive the value of the Bloomberg Terminal and downstream enterprise products. We lead the governance, cost, and quality of the data we acquire, and we collaborate with the wider company to develop our data acquisition strategies ensuring we are aligning with the agendas of our key partners.

The Role:

Within CA, our Research team is responsible for acquiring and managing research content and data from both sell-side brokers and independent research providers. This content is then made available to our buy-side clients. For buy-side professionals, who use the Bloomberg Terminal daily, having the ability to access research content on one system simplifies their jobs and leads to more informed investment decisions. For providers of research such as sell-side firms, being able to deliver their content directly into the workflow of the world's leading institutional investors ensures better distribution of their IP, increased readership, and greater monetization. We onboard an incredible amount of content. It is imperative that we do so effectively and that the content we add is relevant, timely, accurate, discoverable, compliant, and complementary to other Bloomberg products.

The Research team is looking for a Data Product Owner passionate about developing a content vision and strategy for broker research that focuses on customer centric outcomes. In this role, you will be accountable for ultimate success of content strategies and be the link that connects the team, product, and datasets with its users. This position requires extensive collaboration with global colleagues and partners such as Product, Sales, Data and Engineering. You will need to be able to navigate through unknowns and ambiguity while making impactful decisions and be the driving force for solutions.

We'll trust you to:
  •  Develop data-driven strategies, balancing the best of technical and product knowledge, and work with our Engineering and Product departments to craft solutions
  •  Define what a fit-for-purpose data product looks like, and ensure data product health metrics are readily measured and transparent
  •  Identify, support, and develop strategies for new datasets
  •  Lead and implement data quality projects based on evolving business prioritization and commercial landscapes
  •  Make effective decisions in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment
  •  Lead campaigns across the Research Team to mobilize the wider team of relationship managers and technical account managers around the strategy
  •  Make compelling cases and influence decision markers around resource allocation
 You'll need to have:
  • 4 years+ experience working with senior leaders and decision-makers both internally within a firm and outside the firm. This includes C-suite level executives and senior stakeholder management
  • Understanding of the mechanics of both the buy-side and sell-side analyst workflow. Able to quantify trends impacting the industry, and ability to provide analysis that can shape commercial decisions
  • Deep knowledge of multi asset research, qualitative analysis, or industry analysis
  • A solid grasp of data management principles and technologies such as data modeling, data analysis and statistics to tell a narrative and/or generate data-driven insights
  • Strategic approach to align client needs with team goals
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, allowing you to clearly communicate business needs
  • Proven ability to establish strong credibility and build influential relationships with multiple senior internal and external clients and partners
  • Understanding of data integration using multiple data sources
  • Creative and flexible approach to problem solving, aided by strong data analysis skills
  • Understanding of quality assurance and quality control from a data and product perspective
  • Proven track record of effective project management and meeting deliverables. This includes being excellent at prioritizing across multiple competing priorities
  • Experience speaking at public events to promote the brand and vision
 We’d love to see:
  • Master’s degree in relevant field and/or CFA designation (or working towards it)
  • Proficiency using scripting languages (preferably Python) to query and interrogate datasets
  • Experience using data visualization tools such as QlikSense or tableau
  • Experience or knowledge in Bloomberg products, Bloomberg terminal proficiency, and/or Bloomberg data workflows
  • Experience using statistical methods, programming, and machine learning approaches to promote and measure data quality and generate insights
  • Experience manipulating and wrangling large datasets
  • Experience profiling datasets and coming up with necessary requirements
