The Principal Data Architect provides technical leadership and hands on implementation for critical data subject areas and is responsible for the creation, maintenance and management of a data strategy that is aligned with business needs, reflects best practices and increases value for the business unit or organization. The position is required to interpret, use and apply their knowledge and expertise in data architecture to inform a range of projects. The role is responsible for creating and maintaining data models and designing associated components related to data transformation, data quality, meta data management, reporting and analytics. The role is expected to ensure that the data, integration and analytics architecture complies with overall portfolio standards and is designed for appropriate extensibility, security and quality. The Data Architect also serves as a subject matter expert informing data governance initiatives. The Principal Data Architect will also be responsible for mentoring and coaching a team of engineers to implement the data strategy.

The starting salary is $175k; commensurate with experience.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead data architecture efforts to structure, integrate, govern, store, describe, model, and maintain data in the enterprise for optimal accuracy and usage
- Lead and champion the deployment of a data and analytics platform that integrates varied sources of data and delivers incremental business value
- Provide leadership, guidance and coordinate development and deployment of data and analytics related projects for critical data subject areas
- Understand current enterprise data quality capabilities and strive for continuous improvement
- Work with data governance committee to help define data related policies and procedures and their enforcement
- Champion the use of visual modeling tools for defining data architectures
- Collaborate with wider portfolio community in sharing best practices, lessons learned. Constantly updates the data architecture based on evolving technologies and products.
- Review and provide guidance related to data security, retention and archival.
- Understand and communicate data requirements related to future infrastructure needs, working with other IT architects (in-house, partners and vendors) to develop an approach that fits the current and planned needs of the organization.
What We’re Looking For:
Educational Background:
- Degree in related field or equivalent experience
Required Experience:
- 12+ years of experience in Technology, ideally with Data & Analytic platforms
- 10+ years of experience with SQL
- 8+ years of experience with relational and dimensional database modelling
- 5+ years of experience with visual modelling tools using UML or Entity Relationship Diagrams
- 3+ years of experience as a senior individual contributor, team technical leadership or similar role
- Strong experience designing and deploying full stack data analytics platforms including the use of data warehouse technologies and BI and data visualization tools
- Strong experience with both real-time and batch pipelines-based data integration frameworks
- Experience in full life cycle of complex software deployment projects using structured methodologies including Agile/Scrum
- Thoughtful practitioner of software engineering methodologies, frameworks and tools
- Strong experience architecting and deploying cloud enabled data solutions
- Experience creating and implementing Kimball (Star/Snowflake) models as well as either 3NF or Data Vault models
Preferred Experience:
- 3+ years experience leading cross-functional projects and initiatives
- 3+ years experience leading, mentoring and coaching development teams
- 3+ years modeling using Data Vault
- Exposure to NoSQL databases such as DynamoDB
- Exposure to PySpark or big data platforms such as DataBricks, AWS EMR, Hadoop
- Strong experience with AWS cloud data services
- Experience with ER/Studio, ERWin, or Sparx Enterprise Architect
- Development experience in Python, R, Java, or Scala
- Experience with Teradata, Oracle, DB2, and MS SQL Server
