The Gist…

We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative Principal   Investigator (PI) to lead advanced research and prototype development   projects. The ideal candidate will hold a Ph.D. in a relevant field and   possess a deep background in Machine Learning (ML), Data Science, and/or Data   Engineering. This role is integral to developing groundbreaking solutions,   contributing to patentable innovations, and advancing the state of applied   research in high-impact areas.


What Your Day Might Include…

  • Drive scientific discovery and lead R&D   efforts that address complex national security and technological challenges. 
  • Spearhead end-to-end solution development,   from ideation and feasibility studies to prototyping, testing, and   transitioning innovations into practical applications.
  • Work will directly contribute to the creation   of next-generation technologies and lead to the submission of patent   applications or peer-reviewed publications.
  • Engage with internal stakeholders, government   clients, and external research partners, and will be expected to maintain   awareness of technological trends and align research activities with   strategic priorities. 
  • Play a key role in shaping research roadmaps,   informing policy and program decision
  • Lead and design cutting-edge research   investigations in fields including ML, data science, and emerging   technologies.
  • Develop and iterate on prototype solutions to   demonstrate technical feasibility and innovation.
  • Drive efforts related to intellectual property   creation and support the patenting process.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams   including software engineers, data scientists, product teams, and government   stakeholders.
  • Author technical papers, research   documentation, and project reports.
  • Translate research outcomes into deployable   and scalable solutions.
  • Present findings and progress to technical and   executive audiences.
  • Ensure compliance with DoD and federal   research protocols and security requirements.



Requirements

You’ll Bring These   Qualifications… 

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in research roles within government, academia, or industry.
  • Strong technical background in machine learning, data engineering, and statistical modeling.
  • Proven experience in developing working prototypes and applied research projects.
  • Demonstrated experience with the patent process or generating intellectual property.
  • Proficiency with Python, R, MATLAB, or similar scientific computing tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a federal or defense research environment.
  • Familiarity with data security, model governance, and operational constraints in secure environments.
  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals or patents filed/granted.
  • Experience in managing grants or research programs.
