Where You Will Work
Our global headquarters is in Phoenix, Arizona. Several hundred employees support global operations in finance, human resources, information technology, planning and more from the main office, satellite offices or online. As a Hybrid employee, you’ll engage in virtual collaboration as well as attend in-person meetings at our Collaboration Hub in Phoenix or at one of our site locations. The Collaboration Hub provides an open, flexible workspace for individuals and teams to come together for various business needs. Amenities at the Hub include a working café, phone booths and meeting rooms with technology tools for virtual and in-person collaboration. Description
Under limited supervision, plans, organizes, supervises and evaluates extractive metallurgical testing and analysis. Responsible for establishing extractive metallurgical performance targets for site.
- Develop life-of-mine and other forecasts for Reserve Reporting and strategic planning purposes.
- Interpret geo-metallurgical results and perform regression analyses and/or simulations to develop grade and recovery models for ore types. Work with geostatistic group to populate the block model.
- Lead the process of improving production forecast system.
- Anticipate threats and opportunities to the production forecast. Review and recommend strategies to achieve forecast production levels.
- With Geologists, participate in geo-metallurgical sample selection and monitor geo-metallurgical testing and analysis practices, and serve as technical expert on the most complex metallurgical testing.
- Provide geo-metallurgical direction to support the definition of proper Mine Design and sequence.
- Develop and supervise monitoring processes to evaluate the accuracy of the models, and report on the reconciliation of the models.
- Contribute to site strategic planning and budgeting efforts for geo-metallurgical testing.
- Review, recommend, and implement new or enhanced testing equipment or protocols.
- Perform metallurgical accounting audits at Grasberg mine site concentrators and the Manyar and Gresik smelters.
- Provide guidance and counsel to site management team on applicable technology and practices.
- Contribute to the preparation of technical reports. Provide data analysis and economic evaluations.
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Extractive Metallurgy, Mineral Processing, Chemistry, or related engineering discipline and seven (7) years’ experience in extractive metallurgy or closely related scientific field, including lead or supervisory experience, OR
- Master’s degree in Extractive Metallurgy, Chemistry or related engineering discipline and five (5) years’ experience in extractive metallurgy or closely related scientific field, including lead or supervisory experience
- Ability to mentor and lead others in company safety and environmental initiatives, culture and values. Drives action in existing programs and makes process changes with a safety & environmental focus.
- Understands technical and operational aspects of the unit operations.
- Demonstrated ability to predict and make production forecasts.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical information in clear and concise form.
- Demonstrated ability to research, recognize and identify interdependence of complex process variables within scope to anticipate issues, draw valid conclusions and make recommendations.
- Demonstrated ability to be lead and manage large projects and provide timely and quality results.
- Demonstrated ability to anticipate technical needs, drive and optimize complex metallurgical test work based on complex data analysis and make recommendations for process improvement changes.
- Understands Freeport’s Geomet Methodology for characterization and domaining the ore deposit using Level I, Level II and Level II flotation stages.
- Strong working knowledge of 1) Sample Selection, 2) Comminution and flotation tests, 3) Statistical distribution of parameters across the block model, 4) Use of models for production forecasting, 5) Risk analysis, 6) Modeling packages such as SGS-IGS, Aminpro, JK, and power-based comminution techniques to interpret geo-metallurgical results.
- Strong working knowledge of analytical techniques and complex mineralogy of large Porphyry copper deposits.
- Demonstrated data-centric capabilities that use a structured problem-solving approach using statistics and regression tools. A working knowledge of Python and C# is a plus.
Criteria/Conditions:
- Willingness and ability to travel to Mine Site, up to 90 days per year.
- Must be able to work at the Grasberg Minesite Milling Complex, at an altitude of 3,000m.
What We Offer You
The estimated annual pay range for this role is currently $116,000-$162,000. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional incentive compensation considerations based on company and individual performance. Additionally, this position is currently eligible for annual long-term incentive consideration. Long-term incentives are contingent upon authorized approval under the terms and conditions of the Company's plan and award agreements. More details will be shared during the hiring process.
