Lirio is a technology/software company that provides expertise in a variety of behavioral science domains (e.g., behavioral economics, social psychology, public health), data science, and machine learning to drive consumer engagement, close gaps in preventive and chronic care, and promote health and well-being across an individual’s lifespan. Lirio’s behavior change AI platform unites behavioral science with advanced artificial intelligence (AI) to deliver Precision Nudging health interventions. Precision Nudging is the application of behavioral science to health interventions personalized by AI to each individual that overcome barriers to action at the right time and place for scalable, behavior change. 

This is a remote role with the opportunity to be hybrid if located in Tennessee. All applicants must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship. All applicants much reside full time within the US.

Position Summary 

Lirio is offering an exciting opportunity for an experienced cloud engineering manager skilled in people leadership, infrastructure, supporting and contributing to software engineering, technical leadership, solutions architecture, distributed systems, and cloud-native and cloud-agnostic technologies to join us in meeting the challenge to improve health for everyone and develop, maintain, and improve both our SaaS product cloud infrastructure and the infrastructure components of our client deployable enterprise capability for our Kubernetes-based behavior change AI platform. This is a chance to lead a cloud team and contribute to Lirio’s core platform, SaaS product, and enterprise solution, and work with innovative infrastructure, multiple cloud providers, and cloud-agnostic technologies and change lives by improving health. 

The Cloud Engineering Manager is responsible for leading the cloud engineering organization, serving as both technical subject matter expert and supervisor with respect to both cloud development and cloud support activities.  This role helps to define cloud architecture, cloud engineering, automation, and tooling support for Lirio applications, products, and services, assures end to end support to developers and data scientists for computing platforms and resources, and offers guidance in both tooling and team integrations to mitigate risks and enhance innovation. This role serves as a mentor for other Cloud Engineers on the team. The Cloud Engineering Manager also works closely with the CTO and Chief Architect to shape the cloud engineering strategy with respect to the Lirio plan for growth and the product roadmap. 

To succeed in this role, the Cloud Engineering Manager will need Principal level expert technical experience with infrastructure as code, Kubernetes, Kafka, and cloud platform providers like Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), supporting customers deploying software to the cloud, and will need experience supporting distributed systems using Python or Java technology stacks. This coupled with strong people leadership skills. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities 

Cloud Engineering Strategy and Implementation (25%) 

  • Works with the CTO to shape the cloud engineering strategy for Lirio, including integrating with the product vision, and supporting growth strategies that impact cloud engineering and operations  
  • Collaborates internally and externally to understand cloud engineering requirements for the Lirio platform across its implementations and deployments
  • Serves as a thought leader in cloud engineering and operations at Lirio
  • Align cloud infrastructure with HITRUST & SOC2 compliance 

Management (20%) 

  • Serve as a supervisor, mentor, and subject matter expert for the Cloud Engineers at Lirio
  • Provide coaching/mentoring to direct reports on cloud engineering mindset, skills and expertise  
  • Assure career development opportunities and appropriate training for direct reports 

Cloud Engineering Development (35%) 

  • Be a technical leader in cloud engineering development efforts, assuring timely delivery of cloud engineering capabilities aligned with the product roadmap
  • Support the Chief Architect in enhancing Lirio’s platform architecture, evaluating/improving architectural components, and providing technical review/assessment of proposed architectural changes
  • Be a technical contributor to the cloud engineering development activities
  • Assure the quality of cloud engineering development deliverables and set and enforce expectations on development processes, including testing.
  • Assure cloud engineering development processes are in compliance with Lirio standards, and support security/privacy assessment, improvement and audit efforts related to cloud engineering 

Cloud Engineering Support (20%) 

  • Work with the CTO to plan staffing for cloud engineering support functions
  • Responsible for assuring that cloud engineering support operations meet Lirio needs across platform deployments
  • Responsible for establishing and monitoring cloud engineering support SLAs, and optimizing support processes to improve or more efficiently meet those SLAs
  • Assure cloud engineering support processes are in compliance with Lirio standards, and support security/privacy assessment, improvement and audit efforts related to cloud operations 

 

Basic Qualifications 

  • 10+ years in software product development, architecture, and operations across public or private clouds (AWS, Azure, GCP) including hands-on work with secure, scalable enterprise systems (Java or Python)
  • 3+ years of leading/directing cloud engineering teams
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field (or equivalent work experience), with a strong desire to innovate, grow, and positively impact the healthcare landscape through modern technology
  • Articulated ability to mentor and grow team members, collaborate cross-functionally, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and stay current on emerging cloud technologies and industry trends
  • Software engineering background or previously held a software engineering role which may include platform engineering or reliability engineering
  • Demonstrated ability to design, architect, and operationalize scalable, resilient, cost-efficient cloud-agnostic infrastructures and solutions
  • Expert knowledge of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), the Linux operating system, cluster management/administration, and deployment tooling (Helm, ArgoCD) for distributed, event-driven architectures
  • Strong proficiency in DevSecOps principles and automation frameworks (Terraform, Ansible, Azure Key Vault), scripting (Python, Bash), and CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps – Gradle, Poetry, JFrog)
  • Skilled at designing and securing network infrastructure end-to-end (in-transit and at-rest) and meeting compliance frameworks (HITRUST, PCI) with SOC2 attestation
  • Skilled at using observability platforms (Datadog or similar) to review operational metrics and drive improvements
  • Ability to translate ambiguous problems into concrete requirements and craft architectures that meet functional and performance goals
  • Experience with event-driven architectures, asynchronous messaging, and Apache Kafka
  • Expert with Microsoft Entra ID/AD and Secure LDAP
  • Strong command of a programming language
  • Ability to quickly learn company terminology and processes
  • Self-starter with strong time management and work planning skills 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience with microservices and eventually consistent architectures
  • Experience performance tuning Apache Kafka and Postgres
  • Experience running highly available, cloud-agnostic, production data and event infrastructures in Kubernetes
  • SRE experience with large scale cloud-based systems
  • Experience with ML Operations or Data Operations tools
  • Experience with all the big 3 cloud providers and marketplace deployments (at least 2): AWS, Azure, and GCP
  • Experience with Oracle OCI
  • Experience supporting infrastructure at scale for a health tech or healthcare related company with a successful software product
  • Experience with cloud-agnostic mechanisms (CNCF) with integrations to cloud specific services (object storage, secret managers, CDN, load balancers, etc)
