Description

The Corporate Director, Unified Data Platform Architecture and Engineering provides overall technical leadership and guidance to support the effective use of data across Emory Healthcare and University activities. The incumbent leads a Team of data analysts and data management staff to meet Emory Healthcare and University needs

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Development and Implementation

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive data platform strategy that aligns with organizational objectives, ensuring adherence to industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Establish and enforce standards, policies, and strategies for data architecture components to maintain consistency within the Unified Data Platform.
  • Lead the deployment of advanced data processing, storage, and service technologies, leveraging event-driven architecture and highly available APIs. 2

Data Governance and Compliance

  • Implement and enforce data governance policies to ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with regulatory frameworks.
  • Develop standardized processes for data management, ensuring accessibility while maintaining strict security protocols.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including marketing, IT, customer service, and research divisions, to design and maintain scalable and resilient data systems.
  • Partner with data analysts and key stakeholders to enhance data accessibility and usability across Emory Healthcare and Emory University.

Innovation and Strategic Development

  • Drive the evolution of data strategies by fostering a culture of innovation and data-driven decision-making.
  • Identify and implement new technologies and methodologies to improve data platform scalability, resilience, and reliability.
  • Lead initiatives to integrate exploratory analytics, data mining, and predictive modeling to unlock actionable insights. Data Engineering and Infrastructure
  • Collaborate with data engineers, API developers, DevOps teams, and analysts to design and implement scalable, high-performance data systems.
  • Ensure data quality by developing reusable data quality frameworks and validation processes.
  • Lead efforts to build and maintain foundational data products, supporting a broad range of institutional needs. 
  • AI/ML and Automation
  • Design and implement automated processes for maintaining AI/ML pipelines in production environments.
  • Establish and enforce data engineering security standards through automation to enhance system efficiency and security.
  • Cost Optimization and Performance Enhancement
  • Monitor cloud resource utilization and implement cost-saving measures while improving system performance and efficiency.
  • Optimize data workflows and infrastructure to enhance operational effectiveness.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: Bachelor's in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years in related filed with at least 3 years in a management or supervisory capacity 
  • Proven experience in data engineering, cloud computing, or enterprise data platform development.
  • Expertise in data governance, security, and regulatory compliance frameworks. 
  • Strong programming and automation skills, with experience in technologies such as Python, SQL, Spark, or related tools.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML pipeline development and scalable data processing architectures.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a strategic mindset and the ability to drive innovation.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Master's in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Experience in the healthcare or academic sector. 
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) and containerization technologies.
