Summary Description:
Syntiant Corp., a leader in the high-growth AI software and semiconductor solutions space, has entered into an agreement to acquire a large, multi-national sensor business with global revenues in excess of $250 million per year, and is looking for an experienced and talented MEMS Characterization Senior Engineer to take on a critical role with expansive responsibilities and play a leading role in enhancing the MEMS Engineering function in a growing organization.
The MEMS Characterization Senior Engineer will work with design, process, and failure analysis engineer on assisting characterization and failure analysis of the MEMS device, while supporting technology development, product qualifications and quality monitoring. This position will maintain and develop new test solutions, ensure high tool availability and balance/optimize utilization, recommending hardware requirements based on existing trends in characterization.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Developing and maintain MEMS test solutions for development and production, collaborating with design and process engineering to further characterization efforts and drive yield improvement
- Ensuring hardware and software installations are flawless in development and production environments.
- Continuous improvement of characterization capabilities collaborating with MEMS development team
- Developing procedures to support development and manufacturing characterization
- Setup and execute calibration protocols to ensure quality of test results
- Lead equipment procurement/documentation/maintenance and assist with facilities planning
- Support microphone, MEMS, assembly investigations and failure analysis
- Work with design and process engineer to define characterization requirements and support execution of the characterization, including submitting work order requests and writing characterization reports.
Requirements
Qualifications, Education, and Experience Required:
- Masters of Science/Engineering in Electrical/Mechanical/Acoustical/Material/Computer/ Engineering, Physics, or related field, with 2-5 years’ experience. PhD is a plus.
- Experience troubleshooting, debugging and with failure analysis for MEMS sensors.
- Familiar with material/device characterization using optical, electrical, mechanical methods.
- Knowledge of calibration methodologies and best practices.
- Experience with electrical test equipment such as parameter analyzers, oscilloscopes, probe stations, and data acquisition systems is desired.
- Experience with MEMS optical characterization tools such as Laser Doppler Vibrometers (LDV), Optical profilometers, and ellipsometer is desired.
- Programming experience (Python, C/++, Matlab, Labview, etc.) is desired.
- Experience with audio analyzers/DAQs and acoustic measurements is desired.
- Experience with advanced surface science methodologies (SEM, Raman, Auger, FIB, FTIR) an asset.
- Basic knowledge of statistical analysis (JMP, MiniTab, R) is an asset.
- Reliability testing experience is an asset.
- Experience with MEMS/semiconductor fabrication techniques is an asset.
- Hands on experience developing environmental testing setup and fixtures for sensors under thermal, vibration, and electrical tests is a plus.

One element in our total compensation package is base pay. The starting base pay for this role is targeted to be between $115,000 - $125,000, in addition, this role is eligible to participate in our annual incentive plan at 10% of your annual base pay. Individual compensation decisions are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to previous experience and skills acquired prior to joining Syntiant, cost of living in the assigned work location, assigned schedule, and salaries of similarly situated peers at the company. It is to be expected that candidates will come to us with different sets of skills and experiences and therefore will be paid at different points in the stated range. We recognize that the person(s) we select for hire may be less experienced or more experienced than the role as posted; if this is the case, any updates to available salary ranges will be communicated with candidates during the recruitment process.
