CALL 09-2025-1 Researcher position in the Geomatics Research Unit

Who are we looking for?

The Geomatics Research Unit (GM RU) is looking for interested candidates for a temporary postdoc position focused on monitoring Mediterranean coastal lagoons using satellite multispectral remote sensing. The candidate will be involved in research aimed at enhancing the understanding and management of these dynamic ecosystems. The successful applicant should have a PhD degree in Remote Sensing, Environmental Science, Ecology, Oceanography, or closely related fields. We offer a position to work in the field of remote sensing, in the context of the GM RU of CTTC.

What do we offer? :

• We offer a temporary contract (22 months)
• Annual gross salary according to the profile of the candidate
• Full-time contract: 7,5 h/day. Flexibility
• Expected professional category: R2.
• Exceptional candidates may be considered even if they do not meet all the requirements. Qualifications and Experience

• We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic, energetic person, aiming at significantly improving his or her career perspectives in both public and private sectors. The successful applicant should have the competencies of R2 category.
• Required qualification/skills/ experience:
• PhD degree in Remote Sensing, Environmental Science, Ecology, Oceanography, or closely related fields.
• Strong background in satellite remote sensing, preferably multispectral data analysis.
• Experience in statistical modelling and machine learning techniques.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, C++ for data processing and analysis.
• Good publication record in relevant topics.
• Ability to work in interdisciplinary teams.
• Strong communication and writing skills in English for publishing research and project reports.
• Other skills that are valuable, but not mandatory are:
• Knowledge of coastal lagoon ecology and /or carbon stock estimation in coastal ecosystems and/or expertise in water quality parameter retrieval using remote sensing data in aquatic ecosystems and/or Familiarity with seagrass mapping and bathymetry estimation.
• Experience working with GIS tools (e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS) and Experience with Earth Observation data hubs (e.g., Google Earth Engine, WEKEO/Dias).
• Experience in international research centres or universities
