Walmart’s scale and complexity necessitate careful, sophisticated analysis.The Walmart Workforce Intelligence and Insights organization is responsible for leveraging data-driven insights to optimize our human capital strategies and enhance employee experiences while driving business outcomes. The team aims to understand the dynamics of our workforce, improve employee engagement, and drive organizational performance. As a Principal Data Scientist on this team, you will work on projects that provide critical insights into employee behavior, performance, and engagement, directly influencing strategic decisions and organizational outcomes.
We are seeking a candidate with experience in econometrics, causal inference, and AI to uncover deep insights about our workforce, collaborate on the development of key tools and data platforms, and drive strategic decision-making.
What you'll do...
- People Insights – Use internal and external data to deepen our understanding of our workforce and drive decision-making.
- Advanced Analytics & Machine Learning – Apply machine learning techniques (including but not limited to NLP, causal inference, clustering, classification, and predictive modeling) to large datasets, deriving actionable insights that influence key business decisions.
- Econometrics & Causal Inference – Apply advanced econometric and statistical methods to assess the impact of changes that cannot be tested experimentally.
- Cross-functional Collaboration – Collaborate with other teams to identify key areas across Global People where analytics can drive business value and partner to develop solutions.
- Data-Driven Storytelling – Communicate findings clearly and persuasively, translating complex analytical results into actionable insights for both technical and non-technical audiences, including senior leadership.
- Framing and Evaluating Trade-offs – Analyze and balance business trade-offs to support strategic decision-making under conditions of uncertainty.
What you’ll bring…
- PhD in a quantitative field (e.g., Math, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science) and 3+ years working in a role using data, statistics, or relevant experience, or 7+ years of relevant experience.
- Experience with analyzing large datasets (ideally coding in SQL, R, or Python).
- Experience conducting rigorous, insightful research in Labor Economics.
- Experience with experimentation and causal inference.
- Expertise in applying econometrics and machine learning methods to workforce data.
- Curiosity and ability to be a self-starter, naturally interested in learning more.
- Collaborative spirit and ability to uplift your team when you partner with others.
- Problem solving skills.

The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00-$220,000.00
Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
