Principal Consultant Data Strategist

A Data strategist at Thoughtworks is a strategic leader who works with the clients to translate complex challenges into actionable data-driven solutions. Thoughtworks is looking for a Data Strategist with deep expertise and experience in building and delivering data and analytics solutions and strategies in banking and financial services , to join the APAC BFSI (Banking and Financial Services Industry) vertical in Australia.

As a consultant, you will be invested in delivering success to our clients. This will require you to understand their business, market opportunities, the constraints holding them back and how you will unlock the insights hidden in their data to reduce their constraints and capitalise on those opportunities. Your experience and knowledge in the banking and financial services domain will enable you to build early credibility and confidence with our clients and their business and technology executives. 

Being client facing and billable is a key requirement of this role. Our clients and their aspirations and challenges are our biggest source of learning, which keeps us grounded in humility and motivates us to deliver extraordinary impact to them and the industry. Your client engagements at Thoughtworks will include advisory and consulting, as part of a small but experienced team of Thoughtworkers engaged with mid to senior level clients executives. You will also be required to enable Thoughtworks delivery teams through hands-on leadership in delivering compelling data and analytics technology and solutions.

Job responsibilities

• You will collaborate closely with clients to understand their business ecosystem and goals, and leverage this understanding to co-create data and technology strategies aligned with their objectives.
• You will help define a clear vision for the client enterprise to become data-driven and aligned with the overall business strategy. 
• You will also consult on complex data programs, providing technical leadership and guidance as a data subject matter expert.
• You will lead and interact with clients across various domains, addressing a spectrum of challenging problems, and collaborate with sales to turn them into viable solutions.
• You will leverage your expertise to act as a translator between business, data and IT, and communicate data strategy to senior client stakeholders, including C-level.
• You will own the creation of end-to-end viable data solutions keeping in mind long-term impacts and overseeing program inceptions for new product development.
• You will be responsible for formulating data governance strategies addressing security, privacy and compliance requirements.
• You will enable capability building in data strategy and governance, growing the next generation of data strategists.
• You will create differentiated assets in data strategy and governance to take to market.
• You will represent Thoughtworks in various online and offline forums, including events and conferences.

Job qualifications

Technical Skills

• The experience and ability to lead the development and execution of data strategy across the organization, aligning data initiatives with business objectives.
• The experience and ability to design and implement data systems using Domain-Driven Design principles for various enterprise domains.
• A comprehensive understanding of and experience in implementing modern data platforms (data mesh, data lakes, data pipelines) and big data architectures. Enough familiarity with cloud platforms eg: AWS, Azure, or GCP and tools like databricks,snowflake etc to swiftly expand on and advise compelling solutions using these technologies.
• Strong understanding and experience of  tools and technologies for building and executing data management, data governance frameworks, security practices, and compliance regulations.
• Experience leading or delivering data engineering initiatives, including designing and developing intricate data processing pipelines for clients.
• Proficiency in data analysis tools and techniques, including SQL and data visualization tools.
• Experience with data modeling techniques and scripting languages (Python, R) for data manipulation and analysis.
• Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and business intelligence tools.
• Familiarity with popular AI, Gen AI and machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Amazon Bedrock) and foundational ML, MLOps and CD4ML concepts is a strong advantage.
• Experience in designing and developing real-time and low-latency data streaming solutions using leading cloud and on-premise technologies.
