Salary: $81,549.00 - $101,946.00 (To commensurate with experience and consistent with UHN compensation policy)
Shifts: Monday-Friday
Status: Temporary Full-Time

Position Summary:
Working under the direction of the Senior Engineering Manager at Techna, the Research Associate II will play a pivotal role in advancing innovative engineering and research solutions. This role is integral to the development, deployment, and validation of emerging technologies in clinical settings. The successful candidate will lead complex projects and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams spanning engineering, clinical, and research domains to drive improvements in patient care and research outcomes.
Duties:
- Design, build, test, and validate new software features and hardware integrations across engineering projects.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of technical environments and clearly define functional, data flow, and implementation requirements.
- Apply advanced research methods to set study protocols, collect and analyze data, and prepare materials for publication.
- Identify, diagnose, document, and resolve technical challenges and project issues.
- Collaborate with clinical teams, research partners, and the UHN Research Ethics Board to ensure technology meets real-world needs.
- Present design solutions, research findings, and technical updates through clear written, verbal, and graphical communications.
- Manage multiple projects with minimal supervision, while providing mentorship and technical guidance to team members.
- Lead initiatives, from project conception through final deliverables, ensuring adherence to quality standards.
Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Engineering, Science, or a related field.
- No specific certification is required, however, professional accreditation in relevant engineering or research disciplines is considered an asset.
- Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in research and development.
- Demonstrated expertise in software development using languages such as C++, JavaScript, and Python.
- Proficiency in machine learning and deep learning frameworks (e.g., scikit-learn, PyTorch).
- Experience in full stack development and network communication protocols/ APIs.
- Advanced research skills, including study design, data collection, and statistical analysis.
- Proven leadership in managing complex projects and mentoring team members.
- Familiarity with networking technologies, system administration, and cybersecurity an asset.
- Experience with computer vision, augmented reality, 3D printing, and hardware prototyping an asset.
