Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. PRESTO is an electronic transit fare payment system in the Greater Toronto, Hamilton and Ottawa areas that eliminates the need for tickets, passes and cash. PRESTO serves more than 5 million customers across 11 transit agencies and processes over $2.5 billion in fares through 67 million boardings per month (pre-pandemic). Today, PRESTO offers one of the most globally advanced fare payment systems in the world having delivered new ways to pay for customers, including real time PRESTO Contactless with credit and Interac debit and PRESTO in Mobile Wallet across its transit agency clients, including the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC). Enhancing the customer experience through continuous improvement while working with our transit agency clients to support their needs, and maintaining a system that performs exceptionally, continue to drive PRESTO toward making transit better for all.

The Data Architect is responsible for augmenting enterprise-level capabilities in strategy, planning, design, reference architecture, and operationalization readiness, specifically and in the data, analytics & automation space. This role will be accountable for design-time guidance, strategic planning and enabling processes, including requirements unification and refinement across all business units, enterprise-level solution design, strategy and planning, guideline design and communication. Along with assisting in the implementation of technical solutions, the role is also expected to be a Data Architecture SME at PRESTO, addressing and leading all data-related concerns for the various solutions at PRESTO while coordinating with other SMEs.

What will I be doing?
  • Identify, translate, refine and unify business requirement from various business units into technical solutions, and translate technical language into easy verbiage. Act as liaison between vendors, I&IT and business partners, realize value for internal clients, establish and grow collaborative relationships with business partners. 
  • Oversee the stream-specific architectures and designs of data-driven initiatives and automation work streams. Prepare & develop reference materials/artefacts that are critical to project delivery
  • Guide, influence, and build relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, gather input, business priorities and technical requirements, build enterprise reference architecture and blueprint, communicate with business stakeholders and working teams, and iteratively evolve and enhance the reference architecture
  • Provide design guidance to all data-driven programs in the enterprise to compile consolidated diagram to capture the data ecosystem landscape, including key personas, request flows, information storage and compute systems, integration methods, security controls, and other necessary specifications
  • Conduct Technical Deep Dive sessions, analyze the findings and provide recommendations
  • Oversee and evolve the design of the enterprise technology ecosystem, leveraging cloud computing solutions including Azure and Power Platform. Manage and provide training to stakeholders at all levels to increase enterprise data, analytics & automation literacy
  • Define and evolve data strategy & related processes for stakeholder engagement, implementation and deployment, develop processes, standards and guidelines for initiatives and the data, analytics and automation ecosystems
  • Decide, define and roll out best practices and standardization of requests, designs, processes and methodologies in active collaboration with Senior Leadership, business partners and I&IT teams
  • Communicate with stakeholders and iteratively incorporate feedback to evolve standardized processes and procedures
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
  • Completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Management, Information Systems, Analytics, or a related discipline – or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent
  • Demonstrated experience in enterprise data integration, analytics and data automation
  • Extensive experience in business & technical requirements gathering, technical translation and refinement
  • Proficiency in enterprise data collection, mapping and technical solution design, including the ability to clearly articulate ideas, communicate architecture and deliver directions to both business and technical audience
  • Proficiency in enterprise analytics needs identification, mapping and technical solution design, including the ability to clearly articulate ideas, communicate architecture and deliver directions to both business and technical audience
  • Strong skills in data integration and warehousing strategies, methodologies, practices, product lifecycles and tools; skills in analytics & data science practices, methodologies, product lifecycles and tools
  • In-depth skills with data integration and analytics tools especially within Azure Cloud (ADF, Datalake, Azure SQL DB), PowerBI and other Power Platform tools, Databricks; Data engineering experience
  • Experience in data solution/pipeline troubleshooting, data engineering, analytics, robotic automation framework and QA/testing
  • Strong problem solving, quantitative and analytical solution design abilities
  • Interpersonal and oral/written/presentation skills to liaise with all levels within the organization; to work effectively with specialists across multiple sectors and functions
  • Project management skills, including work planning, monitoring and evaluation expertise, to manage multiple projects with competing priorities and tight deadlines
  • Proficiency in MS Office (e.g. Visio, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
