The Wellcome Trust is a global charitable foundation. We improve health for everyone by funding science, leading policy and advocacy campaigns, and building partnerships.

We plan to spend £16bn over the next ten years, funding new discoveries in life, health, and wellbeing, and taking on three global health challenges: mental health, infectious disease and climate and health.

These challenges need the bold science we support, but they won’t be solved by science alone.

We are looking for an Investments Data and Operations Manager to join our team.

Where in Wellcome will I be working?

You will be working in the Data and Operations team within the Investments division reporting to the Head of Data and Operations

The Data and Operations team directly supports the portfolio managers and analysts who jointly manage Wellcome’s £37billion investment portfolio, which is diversified across public and private asset classes with an overall objective of generating returns to fund the Trust’s mission.

The team is responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the investment process day-to-day and for the provision and management of timely, accurate and consistent data to portfolio managers, analysts and key stakeholders alike. To achieve these goals, the team works closely with service providers, counterparties, systems vendors and key internal parties and carries out a number of critical tasks on a regular and ad hoc basis.  Additionally, the team is involved in several continuous improvement initiatives aimed at making our operating model more efficient and cost effective, to deliver value to the Trust and to therefore support the overall mission.

What will I be doing?

This requires  a deep understanding of data flows and governance best practices, empowering the investment team with accurate and timely reports and dashboards.  The role also contributes to strategic improvement initiatives by providing opportunities  to lead and participate in various projects, helping to shape future process improvements  and deployment of systems through design, testing, and analysis,  providing  expert operational and data management insights to facilitate informed decision-making and innovation.

As an Investments Data and Operations Manager, you will:

  • Support day-to-day operations: Undertake routine checks and oversee third-party service providers, managing activities such as trade instructions, derivatives monitoring, cash flows, and foreign exchange processing.

  • Public Markets and Alternatives Management: Process and approve transactions in Public Markets; manage subscriptions, redemptions, valuations, and reconciliations in Hedge Funds and Private Equity; control cash transfers and management in Bonds.

  • Custody and Regulatory Compliance: Liaise with global custodian for reconciliations and oversee regulation-related tasks including tax filings, compliance monitoring, and regulatory reporting.

  • Data Governance and Analysis: Ensure data quality and integrity through governance framework, manage third-party data feeds, support reporting processes, and act as a 'super user' for applications like Addepar.

  • Project Work and Business Analysis: Serve as a business analyst for projects, manage documentation, process analysis, stakeholder engagement, and testing of new developments to implement business changes.

  • Contribute to a diverse and inclusive culture across the organisation, collaborating across departments.
