Job Summary:

Reporting to the Global Commercial Data Officer, the Data Scientist will play a key role in supporting data science initiatives that enhance CVI’s commercial business strategy. This role will focus on analyzing large datasets, developing data-driven insights, and assisting in the deployment of machine learning models. The Data Scientist will work closely with global and regional teams to support business objectives through data exploration, model development, and visualization.   • Assist in analyzing CVI’s structured and unstructured data to derive actionable insights that drive strategic business decisions.
  • Support the development and deployment of data science models, applying basic machine learning techniques to commercial use cases under the guidance of senior team members
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a curiosity to explore and interpret complex datasets. Collaborate globally and regionally with cross-functional teams, leveraging data insights to build strategic partnerships and drive results.
  • Provide expertise in advanced data science techniques, including machine learning, optimization, simulation, regression, decision trees, neural networks, and clustering for commercial use cases.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Utilize predictive and prescriptive analytics to enable proactive decision-making and optimization across the organization.
  • Foster innovation and continuous improvement by integrating new data sources and advanced analytics to enhance business processes and decision-making frameworks.
  • Willingness to learn and apply new data science techniques to business challenges.

 

Travel: 

Ability to travel and work in different locations to support key data projects, if necessary (<15%).

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work at a detailed level while maintaining a strategic perspective in decision-making.
  • Strong data storytelling capabilities, translating technical insights into clear, actionable business terms for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Knowledge in advanced data science, including machine learning, optimization, and prescriptive analytics to support commercial strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of interacting across all levels of the organization, including senior executives.

Work Environment:

  • Normal office environment
  • Prolonged computer and screen use
  • Extensive remote contact with colleagues (usually via “Teams”).

Experience:

  • 6 months to 2 years of experience with at least 6 months of experience in data science or related roles, including analytics, data modeling, and the application of machine learning techniques
  • Proficiency in pulling and analyzing large and complex datasets using SQL.
  • Expertise in data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
  • Development experience in scripting languages (e.g., Python, R).
  • Proven experience presenting complex technical data to non-technical audiences in a business context.

Education:

  1. BS in Engineering, Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Statistics, or Information Management.
  2. Master’s degree in quantitative field is highly preferred for candidates with over 1 year of experience and required for candidates with under 1 year of experience.

California: For U.S. locations that require disclosure of compensation, the starting base pay for this role is between $68,146.00 and $90,861.00 per year and may include cost of living adjustments.  The actual base pay includes many factors and is subject to change and modification in the future.  This position may also be eligible for other types of compensation and benefits.

New York: For U.S. locations that require disclosure of compensation, the starting base pay for this role is between $57,797.00 and $77,063.00 per year and may include cost of living adjustments.  The actual base pay includes many factors and is subject to change and modification in the future.  This position may also be eligible for other types of compensation and benefits.
