The Bridges Lab in the Department of Biological Sciences at Carnegie Mellon University is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Scholar to join our interdisciplinary research team. Our lab investigates the dynamic interactions between bacteria and their environments, with a focus on microbial signal transduction, biofilm formation, and spatial organization using cutting-edge experimental and computational approaches. We welcome applicants from a broad range of backgrounds. This position is ideal for candidates with a Ph.D. and expertise in one or more of the following areas:
Microbiology – microbial ecology, bacterial genetics, or host-microbe interactions.
Microscopy – advanced imaging techniques, image analysis, or spatial biology.
Computer Science – especially computer vision, machine learning, or bioinformatics applied to biological questions.
Position Details:
As a postdoctoral scholar in the Bridges Lab, you will: Develop and lead research projects aligned with the lab’s interests in microbial systems and spatial biology. Work collaboratively with a diverse and multidisciplinary team of experimentalists and computational scientists. Have access to state-of-the-art imaging technologies and computational resources. Contribute to the development of novel analytical tools or experimental techniques. Present research findings at national and international conferences and prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication.
Qualifications
· Ph.D. in Biology, Microbiology, Bioengineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
· Strong record of research productivity and creative problem-solving
· Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively
· Experience in microscopy, microbial systems, or computational analysis is highly valued
Preferred (but not required):
· Experience with spatial transcriptomics, bacterial community modeling, image segmentation, or machine learning in biological contexts
· Programming skills in Python, MATLAB, or similar languages
· Familiarity with high-dimensional data analysis or large image datasets
