The Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity to temporarily join our Strategy & Planning team. The role of the Open Space Data Analysis involves successfully building an integrated spatial database of open space information, including assets, which can be mapped using GIS. This will assist Council to understand existing Open Space and be able to better plan future open space.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Assets and other relevant teams to ensure consistency when incorporating Open Space information with the Assets Database
  • Review existing datasets from a range of sources (Victorian Government, Assets data and previous consultant data) and other available information and work with City Design to identify what additional content we want (and in what form) for information and planning purposes.
  • Present options for the design of how and where open space information is hosted and accessed. This will include existing and new content in the assets database and GIS systems; and the information City Design may keep offline for planning proposes.
  • Identify opportunities in the data design to provide open space information to the community, for example parks with large or small playgrounds, BBQ facilities, dog off leash areas etc.
  • Liaise with relevant internal teams to determine agreed open space names, where this is currently not consistent.

Skills & Experience

Degree or diploma with relevant experience in data analysis, spatial data management and presentation, including across different systems to build towards a wholistic approach.  Social research skills including experience in open space projects would be an advantage.
