ING, Australia’s most recommended bank is seeking a Market Risk Manager to work within our Market Risk team in Sydney.

The Market Risk team are a 2nd line function that are responsible for the effective management and reporting of Market Risk for the Bank (both ING Bank Australia and ING Bank Sydney branch). This includes interest rate risk in the banking book, funding and liquidity risk. They have specialist knowledge (regulations and market) as well as quantitative, qualitative and technical skills in the development and refinement of Market Risk policies, processes and reporting framework. They also contribute to the maintenance of a superior Market Risk Management framework (including understanding and monitoring risk appetite).
 

As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for the development, maintenance, interpretation and on-going review and challenge of reports and processed owned by 1st line. You would also be expected to identify opportunities to enhance existing or implement new controls, processes and automation measures to ensure that the reporting framework remains robust and well controlled.


You will also keep abreast of what is happening in the global financial markets to see how events might impact our market risk management processes and policies, ensuring your stakeholders have a good grasp on our liquidity and interest rate risk.

You will gain broad exposure to market risk management and have an opportunity to work with senior stakeholders in the bank both locally and internationally.

What you’ll do

  • Streamline line 2 management and regulatory reports for informed analysis of market risk classes from the Bank's deposit-taking, retail and commercial lending, and wholesale market activities.
  • Actively review and challenge line 1 risk reports to ensure compliance with regulations and minimum standards, and to question risk exposures.
  • Present reports to Regulatory bodies, Board and Board committees, Finance and treasury functions, various management committees and sub-committees.
  • Utilize QRM, a common banking tool for managing interest rate risk, to calculate interest rate sensitivity using balance sheet data and interest rate information.
  • Improve efficiency and robustness of the existing reporting process through automation and the reduction of manual intervention.
  • Analyse stress testing results to identify and understand changes and their drivers.
  • Liaise with market risk colleagues and stakeholders to develop market and liquidity risk models and documentation, ensuring proper reporting for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Communicate current market events and review policies and contingency plans to address potential impacts, such as significant changes in tariffs.

What we’re looking for

  • Experience with risk management techniques and processes, especially in interest rate risk in the banking book, funding and liquidity risk, modelling of replicating portfolios, transfer pricing, and stress testing methodologies.
  • Relevant market risk experience within the banking industry, including exposure to APS117 and APS210.
  • Proficiency in Asset and Liability Management (ALM) tools (e.g. QRM) and programming languages such as SAS, Python, or SQL.
  • Strong analytical and numerical abilities.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently.
  • Tertiary qualification in Mathematics / Statistics / Actuarial Sciences / Finance / Accounting, or related field with a strong mathematical component
