Data Engineer

Designs, deploys and supports data acquisition and data integration for cloud and on-premise solutions. Structure data in the data warehouse and data marts for business intelligence solutions such as dashboards, scorecards, reports and self-service analytics. Sources data from operational systems with integration and subsequent and secondary transformation. Supports end-user web-based presentation layers and the underlying technology layers including data models, dimensional databases, cubes and security infrastructure.

• Gathers and processes raw structured data using batch data processing frameworks.
• Develops simple to moderately complex SQL coding assets including tables, views, stored procedures in collaboration with the Data Analyst and BI Developer while adhering to technical solution standards and demonstrating flexibility when required.
• Utilizes data testing processes to complete both unit testing and integration testing, collaborating with team members, to validate data solutions
• Develops, with supervision, reference materials (database diagrams, flow charts, script documentation, etc.) for supported data processing technologies to be used for both online and in-person training of other technical staff.
• Manages assigned tasks associated with larger projects and meets deadlines with minimal supervision from supervisor and/or manager.
• Assists senior data engineers by creating training material for use in end-user training programs
• Gathers and processes raw structured data using batch data processing frameworks.
• Interfaces with clients, vendors, and multiple technology teams while providing resolution to incidents and problems as escalated from the Technology Service Center.
• Understands basic root cause analysis skills and techniques and assists senior data engineers in such tasks.
• Knowledge of commonly used software development concepts (CI/CD, unit testing, publish-subscribe architecture, REST interfaces, etc.)

What We Require:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a science discipline preferably computer science or information systems; or equivalent work experience.

Experience: 0-3 years experience in working with enterprise data tools and cloud technologies preferred.

Licensure, certification, and/or registration: Valid Virginia drivers' license and dependable transportation. A minimum of one of the following certifications are required or needs to be obtained within 18 months post hire: W3Schools SQL Certification, SnowPro Core Certification, Talend Data Integration Certified Developer, Python PCEP

Other Minimum Qualifications: Good organizational skills, analytical, dependable, detail oriented, interpersonal skills, and understanding of the English language (both written and oral). Data profiling and data quality analysis experience preferred. Cloud data services, dimensional databases, cubes and columnar data structures experience preferred. Must have excellent problem-solving skills and be customer service oriented.
