This leadership role at Boehringer Ingelheim within their Computational Innovation involves directing a team focused on genomics-driven drug discovery across therapeutic areas.The position requires a PhD and significant industry experience in statistical genetics or a related field, along with expertise in team leadership, collaborative work, and communicating complex findings. The Head will drive genomic strategies, advance technology, and foster external partnerships to accelerate the development of novel therapeutics.
Tasks & responsibilities
- As a Head of Statistical Genetics, you will lead the team of Statistical Genetics. In your new role, you will contribute to delivering novel therapeutic concepts (NTCs) across a range of disease areas including cardio renal metabolic diseases, fibrotic diseases, autoimmune diseases, and oncology.
- You will join an interdisciplinary team with expertise in genomics, disease translation, machine learning, and animal health genomics. Therefore, you will focus on building core genomic capabilities and infrastructure as well as pioneer advancements in our technology capability, including conducting scalable analysis in Trusted Research Environment (TRE) that host large human biobank data.
- Your role will drive proposing and implementing cutting-edge methods to ensure the team is at the forefront of the latest technology and translational knowledge. Your team will deliver state-of-the-art results that advances our understanding of human diseases, sheds light on the cellular and molecular pathophysiological mechanisms and provides insights on translational opportunities.
- You'll spearhead external collaborations with CROs and academia, and represent Boehringer Ingelheim in biobank and biotech partnerships, ensuring scientific excellence and accelerating therapeutic translation.
- With your expertise you will articulate approaches and findings with clarity to stakeholders and diverse audiences, ensuring comprehension regardless of their technical background.
Requirements
- PhD degree in Statistical Genetics, Bioinformatics, Genetic Epidemiology, Computational Biology, Statistics, Computer Science, or related fields
- Deep knowledge of statistical genetics, genomics, and their use cases in disease translation
- Long term industry experience in a disease translation setting in a pharma or biotech environment as well as several years of leadership experience
- Excellent learning capability demonstrated through past performance in learning new knowledge, adapting to new environments, and delivering innovation
- Outstanding skills in operating collaborative working models with stakeholders at all levels. Proficient in team operation, task prioritization, and a track record of business value delivery within timeframe
- Excellent communication and presentation skills - Capable of communicating research projects and their impact to non-technical audiences and stakeholders in a clear and engaging manner
