What are we looking for?

We are looking for a Senior Business Intelligence & Analytics Engineer to help us in developing best in class data tools to deliver high quality tools and services and maintain our accelerated growth. These tools must be developed and maintained using best practices to ensure scalability and stakeholder trust as we grow in both size and scope. This individual will work cross functionally closely with both technical and business stakeholders across the company, as well as optimize our data stack for delivering trustworthy, discoverable, impactful data to fit their needs.

What will you do?

  • Employ your strong SQL and data modeling skills to propose, design, and build trusted tables in our data warehouse via dbt, serving as a single source of truth for a variety of business intelligence, data science, and machine learning use cases.
  • Lead end-to-end dimensional modeling efforts, including requirements gathering, implementation, testing, and delivery. This includes creating high-quality data experiences and collaborating directly with stakeholders to support analytical success.
  • Use your experience working with business partners and your empathy for users to translate stakeholder needs into well-structured data models and downstream experiences in Looker.
  • Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for cross-functional teams, enabling data-driven decision-making through dashboards, self-serve tooling, and ad-hoc analyses, especially for data-forward teams like marketing, international growth, and insurance.
  • Contribute to BetterHelp’s data-driven culture by supporting self-service, improving data discovery and lineage, and fostering trust in our data assets.
  • Partner closely with data and machine learning engineers in our modern data stack, which includes dbt, Looker, Snowflake, Airflow, Snowplow, and Fivetran.
  • Enjoy great teamwork, collaborate with data-minded colleagues who care deeply about mental health, and take pride in building a world-class product that makes a difference in people's lives.

What will you NOT do?

  • You will NOT worry about "runway", "cash left", or "how much time we have until the next round". We have the startup DNA but we're fully backed and funded, all the way to success.
  • You will NOT be confined to your "job". You will get involved in product, marketing, business strategy, and almost everything we do.
  • You will NOT be bogged down by office politics, ego, or bad attitude. Only positive, pleasure-to-work-with people are allowed here!
  • You will NOT get yourself burned out. We work hard but we believe in maintaining a sustainable work/life balance. Really.

Can I work remotely?

Yes. We operate on PST and candidates in any time zone are welcome to apply. We ask employees to travel to our Mountain View, CA office up to three times per year plus one company-wide offsite to collaborate in person and strengthen working relationships. Travel expenses are covered and reasonable accommodations are made for those under unique circumstances who cannot travel.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in analytics engineering, data engineering, data analytics, or a related field
  • At least 4 years of experience working with business intelligence (BI) tools, preferably Looker or Omni
  • At least 3 years of experience using dbt for in-warehouse data transformations
  • Strong technical abilities in SQL, including “big data” scale query design and incrementality patterns
  • Deep understanding of frameworks and tradeoffs in building analytical data models (e.g., star schemas, analytics-ready design patterns, dimensional modeling)
  • Excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, and effective time management
  • Experience providing mentorship, supporting collaborative development, and conducting team pull request (PR) reviews
  • Strong knowledge of data testing, including assertion design, coverage, orchestration, and data contracts
  • Experience with version control using Git in a collaborative team environment
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.

Bonus (Great to have, but not required)

  • BS/MA in a quantitative discipline such as Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or Engineering
  • Significant experience with dimensional modeling, including building fact and dimension tables at “big data” scale using Kimball-style or denormalized design patterns
  • Hands-on experience with data pipelines and analytics using a scripting language, preferably Python
  • Background working with web-based B2C products, especially in healthcare or marketing analytics
  • Experience serving as an agile or technical lead within a data-driven organization
  • Strong familiarity with stream event analytics and web event tracking tools (e.g. Snowplow, Mixpanel, or Amplitude)

  • Excellent health, dental, and vision coverage
  • 401k benefits with employer matching contribution
  • Holistic perks program (including free therapy, employee wellness, and more)
