Northern Trust is looking for a Developer to join its Global Brokerage team. This individual as part of an Agile development team, will be Responsible for designing, developing, testing and deploying software solutions for Brokerage. Assist with the proposal of new designs and modifications to existing ones to continuously improve performance, functionality, and stability of the system. Works with business leaders and business unit partners to define priorities and deliver custom solutions to solve business problems or address business needs. Acts as a business/technical consultant to other partners and coordinates implementation of new processes and techniques.

Major Duties
- Consults with Business Unit and IT management and staff on all phases of the project development cycle.
- Helps to design major systems and their subsystems utilizing a solid understanding of available technology, tools and existing designs.
- Provide technical expertise to support and enhance core data services platform
- Operates independently; has in-depth knowledge of business unit / function
- As subject area expert, provides comprehensive, in-depth consulting and leadership to team and partners at a high technical level
- Carries out activities that are large in scope, cross-functional and technically difficult
- Role is balanced between high level operational execution and development, and execution of strategic direction of business function activities.
- Ensure code meets standards and tested appropriately in the platform
- Be part of platform transformation journey and help in reengineering and improve the current set of applications
Knowledge/Skills
- 14+ Years of experience working in large data warehousing projects, implementing data warehouses, data marts, ETL, BI solutions etc.
- Strong understanding of dimensional design techniques, star and snowflake schemas, building facts, dimensions, implementing SCD, various types of facts and dimensions etc.
- Experience in data modeling practices in designing optimized solutions in 3NF, Data Vault and Dimensional models.
- Ability to work within Core Data Modeling team, exchanging and implementing best practices, presenting and reviewing models, maintaining models etc.
- Ability to work with Data Engineers, Data Architects and other stakeholders to democratize the data models
- Ability to lead the creation and review of reusable, config driven and efficient ETL/ELT pipelines. Ensure that ETL processes are highly optimized for performance, cost-efficiency and scalability
- Ability to guide and lead a team of data engineers and drive the implementation of data ingestion, curation and delivery from end to end
- Ability to work closely with Data Governance team to ensure compliance, alignment with data governance policies and guidelines, data security, privacy regulations etc. Maintain a strong focus on data quality, data lineage and data access controls.
- Ability to participate in data architecture discussions and presentations, contribute in creation of architecture patterns and best practices
- Working Experience and Familiarity with the data vault 2.0 data design will be a plus
- Strong experience in data engineering, ETL/ELT, Informatica, DataStage, DBT or equivalent ETL tools
- Strong experience with RDBMS, writing complex SQL and SQL Optimization
- Strong and Proven Hands-On Experience in Snowflake Cloud DB, Amazon Redshift, Databricks or other cloud MPP
- Working Experience in Snowflake or Databricks will be preferred
- Expertise in PL/SQL or equivalent scripting, Unix Shell scripting, Python etc.
- Working experience in data engineering for Snowflake DB; bulk ingestion, creating native stored procs for data preparation, creating views and dynamic tables, streams, secured views etc.
- In-depth knowledge of advanced Snowflake concepts like RBAC controls, virtual warehouse sizing, query performance tuning, zero-copy cloning, time travel, Access Policies, Data Masking etc. will be a plus
- Experience with scheduling and batch orchestration tools like Control-M
- Experience in Azure cloud services such as Azure ADF, Azure DevOps, Logic App, Azure Functions , Azure Databricks, Azure Storage etc. or equivalent services in AWS or GCP.
- Experience in managing data security and designing secure data solutions.
- Experience with Agile development methodologies and a track record of successfully delivering projects in an Agile environment.
- Familiarity with modern data architectures, data lake, data lakehouse, data fabric, data mesh, medallion architecture etc.
- Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau etc.
- Understanding of Asset Management, Financial Markets, Investment Vehicles, Market Participants, Investment Management and Accounting, ESG Investment etc.
