The Biostatistician I position at Mount Sinai is focused on providing statistical support for clinical projects, including study design, sample size determination, and protocol development across the labs of Drs. Li and Parekh. The role involves preparing statistical analysis plans, generating summary tables, and performing database integration to facilitate comprehensive analyses. The biostatistician will collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure accurate presentation of project results and adherence to standard operating procedures. In addition to supporting clinical projects, the biostatistician will perform Differential Item Functioning (DIF) and Item Response Theory (IRT) analyses to evaluate cultural and linguistic biases in cognitive and psychological assessment tools. The candidate will also conduct advanced statistical analyses to develop normative data for cognitive tests. The Biostatistician I will report to Drs. Li, Parekh, and Spat-Lemus.

  • Perform DIF and IRT analyses to assess cultural and linguistic biases in cognitive and psychological assessment tools
  • Conduct advanced statistical analyses to develop and refine normative data for cognitive tests.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure assessment tools are both culturally appropriate and statistically sound.
  • Interpret and analyze complex data to provide insights for the development of unbiased, effective assessments.
  • Collaborate with NIH-funded principal investigators on observational studies and clinical trials, providing statistical expertise.
  • Review study protocols and contribute to statistical analysis plans for pre-designed studies.
  • Independently manage multiple projects, ensuring timely execution of analyses and deliverables.
  • Perform data cleaning, validation, and transformation to prepare datasets for analysis.
  • Apply advanced statistical techniques such as mixed models, survival analysis, longitudinal data analysis, and Bayesian methods when appropriate.
  • Develop and implement statistical programming in R, SAS, or Python to conduct analyses.
  • Generate tables, figures, and reports for manuscripts, grant submissions, and presentations.
  • Develop and maintain documentation, reports, and presentations on analytical findings for academic, clinical, and policy stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with NIH guidelines, IRB regulations, and best practices in clinical research.
  • Communicate statistical findings effectively to investigators, clinicians, and external stakeholders.
  • Take initiative in learning new statistical methods, programming tools, and research techniques as needed, without requiring extensive guidance.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills to convey complex statistical concepts to non-statisticians.
  • Master?s or Ph.D. in Biostatistics, Statistics, Epidemiology, or a related quantitative field.
  • Proficiency in statistical programming languages such as R, SAS, or Python.
  • Expertise in DIF and IRT methodologies, particularly for evaluating cultural and linguistic biases in assessments.
  • Experience in developing normative data for cognitive tests.
  • Prior experience with cognitive and psychological assessment tools is highly desirable.
