The Cloud Reliability Lab at Huawei Ireland Research Center is at the cutting edge of innovation, driving the development of the world's most advanced data centers. As a member of the team, you will play a critical role in maintaining and optimizing hyperscale cloud data centers to meet the growing demand for computational power across a wide range of services, including AI, big data analytics, and cloud computing.

In this role, you will collaborate with global network engineers, software engineers, and researchers to ensure the reliability and performance of Huawei Cloud's hybrid optical-electrical network infrastructure, which is based on OXC and SONiC technologies, addressing complex challenges in cloud data center operations. Your efforts will directly contribute to delivering unmatched reliability and performance to Huawei Cloud users globally.

Responsibilities

  • Optimize Huawei Cloud's hybrid optical-electrical data center network solutions to ensure high availability, fault tolerance, and efficient traffic management.
  • Collaborate on designing, building, and maintaining scalable network infrastructure across cloud environments.
  • Evaluate and adopt new technologies to enhance the reliability and scalability of cloud network solutions, including traditional DCN networks, AI networks, and WAN networks.
  • Define and enforce operational standards and best practices for cloud networking infrastructure.
  • Improve problem detection and outage recovery times for the networking infrastructure in response to incidents and anomalies.
  • Develop automation scripts, maintain CI/CD pipelines, and plan for scalability and capacity, developing load tests and capacity plans.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience with a Masters or Ph.D in Computer science or related fields.
  • Hands on experience in design, deployment, and operation of cloud scale data center networks.
  • Experience with Elastic Optical Networks (OXC/OCS) and Software Defined Networking (SDN) basics.
  • Experience in coding or scripting in at least two high level programming languages (e.g: C, C++, Python, Go, Rust)
  • Strong communication skills and documentation skills.
  • Optional: Hands on experience working with AWS, Azure or GCP services.
  • Optional: Experience in a specific networking domain such as traffic engineering (MPLS, congestion control, load balancing), routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, ISIS), network security (Firewalls, zero trust networking, DDOS protection), hardware acceleration (SmartNICs, FPGA), high performance data planes (DPDK, P4), or open source network operating systems (SoNIC, ONL).
