About the role 

Knox City Council is seeking an exceptional data engineer to join our Enterprise Architecture team. This pivotal role will play a key role in implementing data, information and insights initiatives over a two year period to achieve our goal of becoming a customer centric organisation.

Reporting to the data architect, the Data Engineer will play a key role in implementing data, information and insights initiatives over a two year period to achieve our goal of becoming a customer centric organisation. This role will be responsible for designing and developing the data infrastructure that enables data-driven decision-making across the organisation. this role focuses on building data pipelines, integrating diverse data sources, and ensuring efficient data storage, data processing and access.

The Data Engineer will implement enterprise-wide data platforms, ensuring data is collected, processed, and delivered effectively for analytics and reporting. This role is essential in creating high-quality, reliable, and scalable data systems that empower analysts and business users.

This is a full time permanent role based at the Civic Centre, Wantirna South. We support flexible working arrangements while ensuring operational needs of the role are met.

This is a Band 8 classified role. Remuneration will be $125,409.17 - $140,806.03 (depending on experience) plus superannuation in accordance with the Superannuation Guarantee (pro-rata for part time) plus superannuation in accordance with the Superannuation Guarantee. 

What you will bring to this role

  • • Significant experience developing and embedding systems, tools and processes to support good data enablement and governance practice and planning across the organisation.
    • Ability to learn new technologies and tools and be comfortable supporting the data needs of multiple teams, stakeholders, and products.
    • Interpersonal skills to build a positive, trustful, agile and high-performance team attitude, plan effectively to achieve improved outcomes from the data.
    • Problem solver by nature and act with integrity and show care for the people you work with.
    • Strong technical business analysis skills.
    • Solid hands-on experience in data modelling and data pipelines development with a combination of acquiring, preparing, and transforming against various volumes of batch datasets.
    • Solid hands-on experience for programming including but not limited to Python, SQL, PowerShell.
    • Solid hands-on experience with Azure Data Factory, Azure Storage Accounts, Azure Key Vault, Azure functions and Azure Synapse Analytics.
    • Knowledge of Snowflake cloud data warehouse architecture
    • Solid hands-on experience in writing and managing stored procedures and user-defined functions (UDFs) on multiple platforms, i.e. MS SQL SERVER, Snowflake.
    • Data storage technologies including RDBMS, NoSQL, and cloud-based storage solutions such as Azure Data Lake, Snowflake etc
    • Knowledge of data governance, data privacy principles and data quality improvement.
    • Understanding best practice in data skills to inspire and influence others.
    • Experience automating data processing tasks to improve efficiency and reliability.
