Senior/ Lead Data Engineer

DN Media Group is seeking a Lead Data Engineer. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping our data and insights capabilities. As a Senior/Lead Data Engineer, you will combine technical expertise with leadership skills to drive the development and evolution of our Data & Insights Platform, provide architectural guidance, and contribute to the operationalization of our data strategy.

Overall Role Focus:

• Operationalize the Data Strategy and support the Head of Data & Insights in implementing our vision.
• Drive the adoption of best practices in data engineering and promote continuous improvement within the team.
• Ensure the team stays current with emerging data technologies and trends.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership & Development:

• Provide hands-on technical leadership, including coding and development, while ensuring adherence to architectural principles and best practices.
• Contribute to data architecture, data modeling, pipeline development, and technology optimization to meet organizational needs.
• Lead the design and implementation of pilot projects (POCs) to validate implementation hypotheses and technology choices.
• Drive the adoption of modern data technologies and practices (e.g., dbt).

Platform Evolution:

• Contribute to the strategy and roadmap for our evolving Data & Insights Platform, aligned with business needs.
• Drive the development of tools and capabilities for DevOps, DataOps, and AI/ML-Ops, empowering other teams to build data pipelines and products.
• Balance contributions to day-to-day platform operations with strategic platform development.
• Data democratization – support and facilitate the adoption of our data products across various business units that utilize BI tools or work with our tools directly.

Leadership & Coordination:

• Coordinate a team of 5 engineers, including Data Platform Engineers, AI Engineers, and Data Engineers (some working in Dhaka/Bangladesh).
• Foster a collaborative team environment, ensuring focus on key deliverables and alignment with best practices.
• Act as a mentor and technical expert, contributing to the team's growth and skill development, especially in Data Platforms.
• Contribute to team building and recruitment efforts.

Role Interactions:

• Report to the Head of Data & Insights.
• Collaborate closely with analysts to understand their data needs and ensure the platform supports their initiatives.
• Partner with product teams and Tech Leads to foster effective communication and ensure the platform delivers valuable capabilities.

Qualifications:

• Strong experience as a Data Engineer, with a proven track record of building and maintaining data platforms and pipelines.
• Experience in leading or coordinating technical teams.
• Solid understanding of data architecture, data modeling, ETL/ELT processes, and data warehousing principles. Experience with DataOps.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and SQL.
• Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., GCP, AWS, Azure) and cloud-based data technologies.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to balance technical expertise with leadership and coordination responsibilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• We believe that you have at least 3 years of relevant experience working on data migration projects, with modern data tools and technologies (dbt, PubSub, Dataflow, etc.).
• Experience working in an Agile development environment.
