Job Summary

IFF Campus Brabrand is an innovation powerhouse in food, feed, and health, and we are part of a global network of 10 R&D sites and 16 application sites. Our R&D teams are at the forefront of innovation, dedicated to helping our customers succeed with high-performing nature-powered products.

In health and biosciences, we have multiple R&D teams, and they are streamlining and automating our workflows for an end-to-end data-driven R&D process.

The position

We are seeking an experienced engineer who excels at the intersection of software development, lab automation, and scientific domains, primarily within biology and chemistry. You will develop software to automate processes and ensure data is structured and accessible.

As our Life Science Software/Data Engineer, you will help create the stack that implements our domain logic and how it communicates with storage backends and instruments. You will identify preferred 3rd party technologies and decide on components to develop internally.

Responsibilities and tasks

  • Create software solutions to integrate our Laboratory Information Management System (Benchling) seamlessly with other systems
  • Design data models to support experimental protocols
  • Build, implement, and maintain scripts and applications to support operations
  • Develop, update, and maintain data repositories using open data formats, (e.g., mass spectrometry data, .mzML, MS image data, .imzML, or spectral libraries
  • Containerize applications to ensure pipelines are accessible and consistent across IFF
  • Identify and onboard third-party services and tools to offload non-core tasks
  • Assist in the development and enhancement of imaging tools
  • Establish standards for colleagues to ensure consistent practices and provide training and documentation

Qualifications

Required:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related technical field
  • Passion for and documented experience writing high-quality, structured, and maintainable code
  • Proficiency in procedural programming language(s) (Python preferred)
  • Experience with version control systems (Git /GitLab)
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Singularity)
  • Familiarity with AWS cloud services (e.g., S3, Lambda, Glue)
  • Proficiency with SQL (Postgres, SQL Server) databases
  • Proficiency with Linux

Preferred:

  • Experience with experimental science (Biology preferred)
  • Experience with various instrument-generated bioanalytical and physical data types, such as mass spectrometry, rheometry, imaging, and spectroscopy data.
  • Experience with DevOps and MLOps
  • Experience with NoSQL databases
  • Proven ability to build scalable solutions
  • Experience deploying AI/machine learning models utilizing GPU acceleration
  • Experience with GPU programming (e.g., CUDA, Open CL)
  • Familiarity with meta-data modeling techniques to organize experimental data
  • Knowledge of data visualization and statistics
