The Head of Enterprise Data Governance and Management reports into the Enterprise CDAO and leads the proper utilization and governance of data across Northern Trust’s federated hub and spoke model. 

This role will head the Hub in the federated hub and spoke model and requires an experienced data leader familiar with data governance, data risk management in a large financial institution, implementing Data and Records Management, Data Management tools, and implementing Data Management in an agile environment. 

This person will be instrumental in enabling our data driven
culture, working across all lines of business and functions to ensure appropriate data management and governance across Northern Trust.


Job focus is on setting and championing strategic vision, representing organizational best interest, managing others, and applying operational or strategic management skills to lead change. Management responsibilities and decisions include hiring, performance reviews, pay decisions and development.


Major Duties
Refine and scale the enterprise data management program, tying directly to business initiatives, regulatory expectations, and overall goals to drive tangible impact
• Develop and drive strategic vision for data governance and management within the organization including governance of reporting assets
• Develop and drive strategic vision for Records Information Management program in first line of defense
• Champion Data Literacy across the business
• Partner with other departments to Protect the Data and ensure Data Privacy
• Secure funding for data management activities and initiatives
• Serve as a point of contact for internal and external regulatory personnel as needed. Enhance and operationalize strategic vision for data governance and data management that aligns to the enterprise data risk appetite
• Establish key outcomes and measures for data management processes, (e.g., classification, business and technical
metadata, automated lineage, data quality assurance) to ensure alignment to internal and regulatory data management expectation such as BCBS 239
• Chair Data Governance Committee and ensure committee processes are followed
• Escalate noncompliance and data risk to the executive committee and recommend solutions
• Provide critical leadership to drive data management decisions that require consensus among senior stakeholders
• Develops and executes a communication and change management plan related to data management in partnership with Data PMO
• Collaborate with partners across the organization in developing and maintaining the data governance and data quality structures ensuring we are meeting business needs while balancing quality, risk and cost.
Oversee through partnership with technology and business the build out of data management capabilities in an agile environment.   
• Ensure enterprise capabilities exist to enable compliance to the Enterprise Data Governance Policy and Standards
• Automate data controls to increase adoption while managing risk

Salary Range:

$171,700 - 300,500 USD

Salary range is a good faith estimate of base pay. Northern Trust provides a comprehensive benefits package including retirement benefits (401k and pension), health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, spending accounts and disability), paid time off, parental and caregiver leave, life & accident insurance, and other voluntary and well-being benefits. Northern Trust also provides a discretionary bonus program that may include an equity component.
