Position: Business Intelligence Developer
Department: Altum Health
Reports to: Reporting and Analytics Manager
Location: Toronto (Krembil Discovery Tower)
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Status: Permanent Full-time

Job Summary:

The Business Intelligence (BI) Developer reports to the Reporting and Analytics Manager at Altum Health, UHN, and collaborates closely with Business Intelligence Analyst and clinical/business analysts.  This role is responsible for creating data extract and analysis content based on end-user specifications. The ideal candidate will have expertise in SQL, SSIS, Epic Clarity and Caboodle database, along with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.  A solid background in data management, analytics, and business intelligence is essential for success on this role.

Duties:

 

  • Work closely with stakeholders, subject matter experts, and end-users to understand the requirements, and analyze the needs of data consumers.
  • Identify and develop the appropriate technological solutions for various data needs.
  • Designs and maintains databases, tables, views, stored procedures, jobs, schedules, alerts within a Microsoft SQL Server environment and works to maintain database system integrity and daily processing.
  • Write SQL queries and configure report settings for custom SQL metrics; build extract (in SQL) using Epic’s Reporting databases (Clarity and Caboodle).
  • Develops data models and maintains database schemas. Automates regularly scheduled database tasks.
  • Leads the development, maintenance and reporting from various internal databases (utilizing database application design, security, query, forms, reports, macros, VBA skills).
  • Implements data quality checks and develops analytical reports to address data quality issues for related departments.
  • Responds to data quality issues identified by audits and provides solutions/explanations to fix issues.
  • Provides technical support for user testing; serves as a support resource to resolve issues related to system problems.
  • Review upgrade documentation related to application features and determine how to implement the changes;
  • Coordinates with the appropriate parties to resolve issues with the SQL Server.
  • Automates and develop key performance metrics (KPIs) and scorecards to support performance measurement and hospital accountability.          
  • Contributes to the development of BI solution and delivery requirements for data integration projects.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate Degree in Computer Science, Information system, Health Informatics, Business Analytics, or equivalent.
  • A minimum 3-5 years of experience in Business Intelligence, data Analytics, and reporting tool development.
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) SQL Server or Microsoft SQL Server Certificate preferred.
  • Epic Cogito Data Model Certification (Epic Cogito Fundamentals, Clarity Data Model, Caboodle Data Model, Clinical and/or revenue/access Data Model) preferred.

Skills & Experience

  • Expertise in relational & dimensional database and data modeling.
  • Proficiency in MS SQL Server Management Studio and MS Visual Studio.
  • Hands-on experience with analytics and Business Intelligence tools.
  • Familiarity with Epic application and database structure.
  • Strong databases design, development, and maintenance skills.
  • Excellent problem solving skills and communication skills.
  • Ability to gain an in-depth understanding of data models and data structures.
  • Ability to effectively work both independently and in a team-oriented environment.
  • Experience with clinical and business workflows and data in a Canadian healthcare setting preferred.
  • Familiarity with UHN’s system build, end user workflows, and data usage patterns preferred.
