Job Description
We’re currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Data Engineer to join our team as a key technical authority and thought leader for our Data Platform and Engineering team. You’ll be responsible for driving the improvement of technical delivery quality, guiding solution development and delivery, and providing expertise in a wide range of applications and technologies. You’ll address complex and far-reaching technical issues within the domain. At AXA we work smart, empowering our people to balance their time between home and the office in a way that works best for them, their team and our customers. You'll work at least 40% of your week away from home, moving to the majority of your working week from September 2025. Away from home means either attendance at one of our office locations, visiting clients or attending industry events. What you’ll be doing:
- Provide technical leadership and expertise for the development and implementation of data engineering solutions.
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL processes to support data analytics and business intelligence initiatives.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and ensure effective data integration and governance.
- Evaluate and recommend appropriate tools and technologies to enhance data processing, storage, and analysis capabilities.
- Drive the design and implementation of data models and databases to support the AXA's data infrastructure and applications.
- Define and enforce best practices for data engineering, ensuring data quality, reliability, and security across all data-related initiatives.
- Contribute to the delivery of code and provide expertise in several key technology areas.

What you’ll bring:
- Strong understanding of data and analytical processing technologies.
- Proven experience providing technical leadership in a product team or domain.
- Expert fundamentals in multiple technologies and frameworks required such as Azure Data Lake, Azure Data Factory, Event Hubs, Databricks, PowerBI, DevOps, GIT, SQL, Python and PySpark.
- Excellent knowledge of development lifecycles.
- Ability to lead and work in a team, as well as being self-sufficient
- Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills.
- Agile practices, principles and theories including Value Stream level ceremonies.
- Ability to prioritise and confidence in decision making.
