Summary

As a Principal Planning Analyst, you will have the unique opportunity to provide cross-functional and enterprise-wide analytical support, focusing on wildfire mitigation and routine maintenance strategies within the Asset & Wildfire Risk team. You will lead data-driven initiatives, develop predictive analytics, and serve as a key subject matter expert for operational metrics, contributing to PGE's safe and reliable power delivery. A successful candidate will have advanced knowledge of statistics, metrics, and data visualization, coupled with expert skills in analytical thinking and advanced risk management capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

Specialization

  • Typically provides cross-functional or enterprise-wide analytical support.

  • Works with GIS, IT, and Vegetation Management analytics teams to maintain and enhance metrics reporting processes, dashboards, and reporting platforms.

Reporting

  • Proactively anticipates cross-functional data and analytic needs and, in collaboration with subject matter experts, develops reports.

  • Leverages subject matter experts to obtain data from multiple systems. Develops, maintains, and continually improves reporting processes.

  • Develops reporting format to meet user needs, customizing analytics and visuals.

  • May provide data for compliance reporting. Ensures data security and integrity.

  • May identify and mitigate data risks.

Strategy and Planning

  • May coordinate or oversee cross-functional or enterprise-wide scorecard processes, including identifying and gathering data and analytics to use, proposing new or modified operational performance metrics, and engaging stakeholders to ensure alignment.

  • Gathers and analyzes metrics to support decision-making for advanced wildfire risk reduction (AWRR) and routine vegetation management (RVM) planning.

  • Contributes to Wildfire Mitigation Plan development and vegetation-related compliance programs.

  • Assists in planning and prioritization for vegetation management activities.

Data Management

  • Depending on specialty area assigned, may manage data related to budget, position management, and/or operational performance metrics.

  • Administers databases or other data repositories and identifies system issues to escalate.

  • Interfaces with Vegetation Management, GIS, IT, and PMO teams.

  • Obtains data from external studies or sources and ensures compliance with state and federal vegetation clearance and wildfire mitigation requirements.

  • May design or administer database or other data repositories, including performing configuration or implementing upgrades.

  • May design and perform user acceptance testing.

  • May obtain data from external studies or sources.

Analysis

  • Proactively analyzes complex data from multiple sources and develops regular and predictive analytics.

  • Conducts benchmarking and identifies differences and trends.

  • Develops models and simulations.

  • Creates meaningful visuals.

  • Identifies risks and recommends mitigation strategies.

  • Utilizes machine learning, programming, and other tools to support data analysis and visualization. Specific tool may include: Python, R, Excel, ArcGIS, ArcGIS Field Maps, and QuickBase.

  • Focuses on descriptive analytics and their integration into predictive modeling or advanced statistical techniques.

Consulting

  • Serves as an enterprise-wide or cross-functional analytics and operational subject matter expert.

  • Proactively provides data-based solutions to anticipated business needs.

  • Leverages data analytics to identify risks and provide decision-making guidance to facilitate business outcomes.

  • Makes data-based planning and operating recommendations.

  • Provides data and analytics to inform business decisions.

  • May quantify risks.

  • Collaborates cross-functionally to further enhance vegetation-based risk modeling.

  • Works with meteorologists, risk analysts, and data scientists to integrate forestry knowledge into predictive modeling.

Projects and Initiatives

  • Leads cross-functional data-driven initiatives and projects.

  • Serves as a key subject matter expert for vegetation-related operational metrics and for analytics for key projects and initiatives.

  • Responds to changing conditions, including severe weather and regulatory updates, as needed.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Statistics, Psychology, Forestry, Ecology, Environmental Science, or other related fields, or equivalent experience.

  • Certification in ArcGIS or related analytics tools is a plus.

  • ISA Certified Arborist preferred (knowledge of tree biology and characteristics is an advantage).

Experience:

  • Typically, eight or more years in statistics, finance, process improvement, project management, or a related field.

  • 2-3 years of experience in vegetation management analytics, forestry, or environmental resource planning preferred.

  • Familiarity with wildfire mitigation or routine vegetation maintenance is a plus.

  • Familiarity with integration of sensor data into vegetation analytics is a plus.

  • Experience with machine learning or AI-driven predictive analytics for wildfire risk is a plus.

Valid driver’s license required.

Compensation Range:

$107,025.00 - $178,375.00

Actual total compensation, including a performance based incentive bonus, is commensurate with experience, skills, qualifications, education, training, and internal equity. While we anticipate the selected candidate for this position will fall towards the middle or entry point of the compensation range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis.
