Job Title: Senior Data Analyst

Salary:  £45,272 per annum

Hours: Full-time or part-time (minimum 0.8 FTE)

Contract type: Open-ended

Location: Swindon - Hybrid Working available. Note: a London location is available to UKRI employees on existing London-based contracts.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the dynamic, multi-disciplinary analytical team at the heart of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).

The Data Analysis and Statistics team is part of the UKRI Analysis and Evidence team. The team works across UKRI, providing data and analysis to colleagues across our strategy team, partners and government. Our work plays a key role in delivering UKRI’s strategy and the governments ambition to strengthen the UK’s position as a global science and technology superpower. The UKRI Analysis and Evidence team are responsible for the high-quality evidence that is vital to delivering this ambition.

The team is responsible for key UKRI publications and it uses of statistics and data science to tackle some of the most challenging analytical questions across UKRI and supports the provision of data for analysis. As part of the team you will have the opportunity to work in a range of areas and projects

About the role

  • As part of the Data Analysis and Statistics team this role will: 
  • Lead on the delivery of the analysis for our major publications: The Funding Investments and Outputs, and Gateway to Research
  • Lead on a range of UKRI data submissions, including parliamentary questions and freedom of information act requests.
  • Lead on the provision of data for the UKRI performance framework which will support and advise senior UKRI colleagues on funding and allocation decisions. 
  • Deliver insightful and challenging analysis to strengthen and support a robust research and innovation foundation.
  • Work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders, building new links and directly interacting with and influencing stakeholders and customers. 
  • Work as part of a team, developing your own technical and non-technical skills, and being an active member of the wider analytical community.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria:

  • Relevant experience in working in statistics, data science, operational research, economics or highly numerate subjects such as mathematics, physics or engineering. (S)
  • Experience wrangling data; producing analysis and communicating it to technical and non-technical stakeholders. (S/I)
  • Familiarity with a range of statistical and data science methodologies and techniques. (S/I)
  • Technical experience analysing data with tools such as SQL, R and/or Python or equivalent. Training will be provided.(S/I)
  • Strong and effective communication skills both oral and written.(S/I)
  • Excellent work planning and organisation.(S/I)
