THE ROLE AND THE TEAM

 

As a Principal Artificial Intelligence Software Engineer in Information Security, you will play an essential role in securing Zalando’s applications, services, and AI models. Operating at the intersection of engineering and security, you’ll champion a security-by-design philosophy and ensure that security considerations are integrated throughout the entire software development lifecycle. In this dynamic role, you’ll serve as a trusted technical expert and a key member of the Application Security leadership team, collaborating closely with engineering teams to shape and influence the security architecture across the broader organization.

WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)

• Create clear and actionable guidelines for secure AI development, deployment, and usage.

• Define security principles, standards, and guidelines specific to AI systems, considering the unique threat landscape.

• Specify security requirements for cloud environments, data storage, and processing platforms used for AI workloads.

• Identify potential vulnerabilities and attack vectors specific to AI, including adversarial attacks, data poisoning, model extraction, and privacy risks.

• Integrate security controls and best practices into the entire AI lifecycle, from data acquisition and model training to deployment and monitoring.

• Actively engage in hands-on development for core components, integration points or for showcasing solutions via POCs with the purpose of unblocking teams and of paving the technical ways forward. 

• Take responsibility for designing and implementing scalable and resilient security solutions for new application security projects.

• Drive the adoption of advanced security tools, frameworks, and methodologies to improve overall AI security posture.

• Mentor and grow software engineers. 

WE'D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF
 

• You have extensive experience in software engineering with significant hands-on expertise in Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning development and security.

• You possess fluency in at least one programming language.

• You have deep knowledge of AI-specific security risks and mitigation strategies (e.g., adversarial attacks, privacy-preserving techniques, explainable AI).

• You possess a strong understanding of Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning concepts, including model development lifecycles, data pipelines, and deployment architectures.

• You have excellent threat modeling and risk assessment skills.

• You have strong knowledge of application security, cloud security (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP), security by design and secure software design life cycle practices.

• You have a strong understanding of data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR) and their implications for AI.

• You are familiar with security frameworks and standards (e.g., NIST Cybersecurity Framework, ISO 27001).

• You have excellent communication skills and can effectively collaborate across teams to integrate security into broader engineering initiatives.

• You are comfortable working both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
