Part-time Lecturer - Arts and Technology (multiple positions) (24250197)

The School of Creative Arts (SCA), comprised of three well-established academic units: the Academy of Film, the Academy of Music, and the Academy of Visual Arts. Established on July 1, 2022, SCA is dedicated to nurturing future-ready talents for Hong Kong and beyond, while making a significant impact on society through innovative research and transdisciplinary studies.

The School is currently seeking multiple Part-time Lecturers to teach undergraduate courses across both junior and senior levels in some of the following areas:

Immersive & XR Environments

  • Content creation and worldbuilding for VR, AR, MR, and XR experiences;
  • Game engine environments (Unity, Unreal Engine) for interactive storytelling; and
  • 360° video production and spatial media for immersive environments.

AI-Generated & Computational Art

  • Content creation and worldbuilding with Generative AI tools (GANs, diffusion models, neural networks);
  • AI-assisted animation and choreography in interactive performances; and
  • Machine learning-driven generative art for dynamic and evolving works.

Interactive & Sensory based Systems

  • Camera, motion tracking, and sensor-based interactivity for installations;
  • I/O device integration (e.g., LiDAR, EEG, eye tracking, haptics) for real-time response;
  • Haptic & Multisensory Art – Touch, temperature, and motion-responsive installations; and
  • Olfactory & Taste-Based Art – Exploring smell and taste as artistic mediums.

Node-Based & Procedural Content Creation

  • TouchDesigner, Notch, and other node-based programming for real-time visuals;
  • Procedural generation techniques for dynamic worlds and generative design; and
  • Live coding and algorithmic art (e.g., Hydra, P5.js, SuperCollider, TidalCycles).

Robotics, Kinetics & Mechatronic Art

  • Kinetic sculptures and robotic installations blending mechanics and aesthetics;
  • Swarm robotics and AI-driven movement systems in performance and sculpture; and
  • Haptic art and design integrating sensors and biofeedback.

Generative & Experimental Animation

  • Algorithmic and procedural animation using AI and machine learning;
  • Datamoshing, glitch art, and digital distortion as artistic techniques;
  • Hybrid 2D/3D and motion capture for new animation workflows; and
  • Data-driven storytelling and visualisation in art installations.

Advanced Prototyping & Post-Digital Fabrication

  • 3D printing, laser cutting, Cobot or Robotic arm for content creation;
  • Generative design in architecture and object-making with AI and algorithms; and
  • Fusion of digital fabrication with traditional craft in hybrid art practices.

Web-Based & Networked Media Art

  • Web-based interactive experiences using JavaScript, WebGL, WebXR, and Three.js;
  • Decentralised art and blockchain-based creativity (NFTs, smart contracts);
  • Data-driven, generative websites and real-time networked art; and
  • Social media and algorithmic art exploring digital identity and engagement.

While the courses primarily emphasise the applied and technical aspects of these areas, the candidate is also expected to thoroughly address their historical, theoretical, artistic, and ethical dimensions.

The ideal candidate should hold a master’s degree or higher in a relevant field, preferably with teaching experience at the university level. Candidates with exceptional professional and teaching experience in related areas, but without a master’s degree, may also be considered. A strong command of English, excellent communication skills, and a high sense of responsibility are required.

Duties may also include supervising students, grading papers, essays, creative works, and documentation, as well as other tasks assigned by the Programme Director and the Dean of the School.

The initial appointment will be offered on a part-time basis commencing August 2025. Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to performance review and course availability.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
