Data Engineer

     

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Thoratec Switzerland GmbH is part of the medical device division of Abbott Laboratories, a fortune 500 company with over 115’000 employees worldwide. We are the global market leader for implantable and extracorporeal blood pumps based on magnetic levitation technology. Our life-saving systems, which we develop and manufacture in Zurich, are used for advanced heart failure patients needing short- or long-term circulatory support.

Our location in the heart of the city of Zurich has around 130 employees in the areas of development, quality and production of the CentriMag system and the HeartMate 3.

We are seeking a talented and motivated Data Engineer to join our Heart Failure Division. In this role, you are mainly responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the infrastructure that allows for the collection, storage, and analysis of data and ensures data pipelines are efficient and reliable, enabling analysts to access and work with data seamlessly.

Main Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and architectures.

• Implement and optimize data models and ETL processes to support data analytics and reporting.

• Develop and maintain interactive dashboards and reports.

• Develop and maintain custom applications that enable internal users to access and manipulate analyze data efficiently

• Lead and manage data-related projects, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with business objectives.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.

• Perform data analysis and generate insights to support decision-making processes in the medical device sector.

• Ensure data quality, integrity, and security across all data platforms.

• Stay up to date with the latest industry trends and technologies in data engineering, data science, and medical devices.

Your Background

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.

• ~5 years of experience as a Data Scientist or Data Engineer.

• ~5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g.,Python, SQL, and C#).

• Strong proficiency for data visualization and reporting (e.g Power BI, Tableau).

• Hands-on experience with Data Lake technologies (e.g., Azure Data Lake, AWS Lake Formation).

• English Level C2 is required, German would be a plus.

• Previous experience working in the medical device sector or healthcare industry is a plus.

• Knowledge of 21 CFR Part 11 requirements and experience ensuring compliance is a plus.

• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
