Scout Motors Internship Program
We will provide aspiring professionals with a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience with our talented, inclusive, and entrepreneurial teams. Undergraduate Interns will immerse themselves in the EV landscape, gaining exposure to the latest trends, technologies, and market dynamics. Interns will be assigned meaningful projects aligned with Scout’s goals. These projects will challenge interns to apply their academic knowledge in real-world scenarios, fostering problem-solving skills and creativity while working under the mentorship of our leaders.
This program is designed for current undergraduate students who live in our local market. Please note that no housing stipend is provided.
2025 Internship Program Overview
- Schedule: The program is anticipated to run mid-May to mid-August 2025
- Duration: Our internship program runs approximately 12 weeks, with the official end date varying dependent upon student needs and the start of respective Fall academic calendars
- Transportation + Housing: our Interns will be responsible for providing their own housing and transportation
Important Notes:
- Scout Motors will not provide relocation or sponsorship as part of our Internship program
- High preference for currently enrolled Bachelors degree students
- Deadline: applications for the program must be received no later than April 30th, 2025
Location & Travel Expectations: This role is on-site and will be based out of our Scout Motors location in Columbia, South Carolina. The responsibilities of this role require daily attendance at in-person meetings and events regularly.

About the team
The Plant Launch team is dedicated to ensuring the success of vehicle launches through strategic management and seamless collaboration across all business units. We leverage technical expertise, manage timelines and budgets, and foster clear communication to uphold the highest standards of quality and efficiency. We oversee project management, premises setup, and change management in production while continuously optimizing processes to enable informed decision-making. Acting as the key interface cross-functionally between production and other business units, we ensure alignment and drive collaboration at every stage of the launch.
Daily Responsibilities of the Internship Program include
- Lead research and prototyping of AI-driven solutions in manufacturing, with a focus on robotics integration, computer vision, and edge connectivity.
- Develop and deploy proof-of-concept applications using technologies such as Siemens edge devices, Boston Dynamics Spot, and industrial robots (e.g., Yaskawa).
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and external industry partners to implement real-time data flows and automated inspection systems.
- Design and build functional dashboards and monitoring tools to visualize factory-floor activity and AI outputs.
- Prepare structured technical documentation and deliver high-level presentations to stakeholders, showcasing findings and recommendations for implementation.
- Contribute to the development of scalable smart factory solutions that support predictive maintenance, quality control, and process automation.
What you’ll bring

- Current undergraduate student pursuing a degree in Integrated Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (GPA: 4.0)
- Proven hands-on experience in real-world AI and robotics projects, including autonomous quality control systems and visual inspection solutions using Spot and DeviceWISE.
- Technical proficiency in Python, C, Swift (MVVM/TCA), HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, with application in app development and industrial automation.
- Strong background working with Siemens PLCs, edge devices, Raspberry Pi, Arduino, and 5G-enabled hardware in connected environments.
- Experience leading peer teams, mentoring others, and presenting complex solutions to external stakeholders and industry leaders (e.g., Michelin, Verizon, Siemens).
- Familiarity with AI/ML tools (e.g., CVAT, TensorFlow, PyTorch), and an active member of AI/ML-focused university groups.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent projects in fast-paced, high-impact settings.
- Availability to work on-site in Columbia, SC for the full 12-week internship period from mid-May to mid-August 2025.

This is a paid internship program.
Hourly pay rate = $26.00 per hour
