Milliman’s Milwaukee-based Property and Casualty practice is one of the leading experts in P&C insurance matters. We are leading experts in evaluating mortgage collateral for government agencies, mortgage lenders, insurers, reinsurers, and investors. Our consulting work is supported by a powerful toolkit of data analytics solutions informed by years of in-depth work.
The Opportunity
Escalating litigation costs are putting immense pressure on insurance companies to manage expenses effectively. Traditional methods are often time-consuming and lack the analytical depth required to uncover hidden patterns and anomalies in legal expenditures. Milliman Datalytics-Defense® offers a cutting-edge, AI-driven legal spend management solution designed to transform how insurance companies handle legal e-billing. Our platform goes beyond basic invoice review, providing comprehensive analytics to optimize legal spend and claim outcomes.
Our Data Science team relies upon a suite of modeling tools that ranges from Azure ML Studio, including XGboost for GLMs and machine learning to Azure OpenAI ChatGPT fine-tuned models. Data Science Interns support the design and development of high-quality modeling solutions through data processing, analytics, building dashboards and reports, testing the integrity of the fine-tuned model, documentation and other projects. This is a great opportunity for a naturally curious, thoughtful student to apply quantitative techniques in real-world business problem-solving.
Responsibilities include:
- Gather, clean, and validate structured data derived from the fine-tuned model
- Document business requirements and conduct testing
- Perform exploratory analysis of data using visualizations and summary statistics
- Prepare reports of findings for review by Data Scientists and consultants
What We Are Looking For
Professional Qualifications:
- Must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s program, pursuing a degree in Statistics, Math, Computer Science, Economics, or another quantitative field, at time of application
- At least one data science course completed
- Familiar with using SQL queries to analyze large data sets in Excel
- Familiar with debugging code and troubleshooting in C# and .NET

- Willing to invest the time it takes to perform support work related to AI
- Analytical and critical thinking skills
- Effective oral and written communication
- Team player with positive and energetic attitude
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Understanding of relational database concepts
- Working understanding of statistics
Preferred (Not Required):
- Experience with data visualization (e.g., PowerBI, Tableau)
- Experience with SQL databases
Location
This position is based out of the Milliman office in Brookfield, WI. Candidates hired into this role must be willing to work onsite at least one day per week during their internship.
