Job Description

You’ll be joining our Style Discovery team in our Customer Experience domain. The team will be responsibility for developing machine learning technology which supports or goal of enabling exciting and unique user experiences. As an org, we are mobile-first, science led and data-driven, and function under a product operating model, meaning you’ll have close interactions with our product managers and designers to create the best shopping experiences for our customers.

In this role, you will be leading a team that is at the heart of driving applied science into the fashion experience we serve our customers, empowering them to discover and shop complete outfits that resonate with both their personal style and current fashion trends.

Engineering Leads are both technical leaders and people managers. They are responsible for how software is built (and how long it will take) — covering all aspects of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), including architecture, design, coding and quality—and for who builds the software, focusing on team growth, skills development, and performance. Their Product Manager counterparts are accountable for why we build software to solve specific business problems and what we should build to enable our business and customers.

What you will be doing

  • Working as part of an agile team of scientists, machine learnings and data engineers to design and deliver high-quality batch and online machine learning solutions at-scale solutions for our hundreds of millions of customers/products, creating measurable impact across the business.
  • Supporting our services at hyper-scale through critical trading periods.
  • Coordinating with teams across ASOS to ensure that Customer Experience as a whole is a key consideration in organisation-wide initiatives.
  • Contributing to the wider engineering community through our working groups, sharing your knowledge, and helping to drive improvements across all of engineering.
  • You will be continually developing and improving our code and technology, taking an active role in the conception of brand-new features.
  • You will be mentoring and coaching members of your team, supporting their technical progress.
  • You will contribute to the team's technical direction, establish ML standards, and drive quality across ASOS's ML community, while sharing expertise gained from the team.
  • Learning new things and always striving to develop your skills through our Tech Develops days and hackathons.

Qualifications

About You

  • You have professional experience in machine learning with expertise in deep learning methods and their practical applications in production environments.
  • You have strong understanding of software development lifecycles and engineering practices (Data pipelines, CI/CD, containerisation, observability) - specifically ML Ops principles, techniques and tooling.
  • You possess mastery of deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow) and distributed computing frameworks (e.g., Horovod, DeepSpeed) for implementing large-scale deep learning models.
  • You have proven ability to create and manage multi-instance clusters for distributed and parallel training across GPUs, demonstrating proficiency in data and model parallelism techniques.
  • You’re comfortable providing technical leadership, mentoring, and coaching to engineers, scientists and data professionals. You will contribute to wider engineering initiatives across ASOS.
