The Center for Workforce Research and Information manages the programs that provide the most important information about labor market conditions in Maine. These programs inform the public about employment, unemployment, and wages for the state and local areas.

The Senior Workforce Data Analyst contributes to the Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages (QCEW) team. QCEW is the foundation for labor and other economic statistics in the U.S. Responsibilities include analyzing, reviewing and editing data to ensure accuracy and completeness. Identifying outlying patterns in reported data and contacting employers to clarify or gather corrections as needed. Researching the nature of a business and conducting outreach to employers via email and phone to collect additional information to determine the most pertinent industry to assign to that employer.

Attention to detail, working independently and collaboratively are important to success. Most members of our team primarily work from home several days a week and some work primarily in our Augusta office. Our full staff usually joins together in the office on Wednesdays. Primary responsibilities include:  

  • Analyze, review, and edit data to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Conduct outreach to employers by phone and email to collect data and obtain clarification.
  • Provide support to the Annual Refiling Survey by ensuring the database reflects newly reported and relevant information and collecting survey responses as needed.
  • Link employers using predecessor and successor analysis tools, identify instances of ownership changes, mergers and acquisitions.
  • Enter and review information collected through Multiple Worksite Reports, contacting employers when reports are out of balance and creating new worksite locations in the database as necessary.
  • Research the nature of business to assign industry and geography codes to employer accounts.
  • Generate and organization QCEW data for publication or to provide in response to requests for information. 
  • Cross train in other labor statistics programs and provide operational support.

Minimum qualifications:

Intermediate to advanced education, training, and/or experience in data analysis, data collection, data production, labor statistics, economics, or another related field with demonstrated experience in a role working with data and providing mentorship.

Preference will be given to those applicants:

With knowledge of, experience in the following: industry classification (North American Industry Classification System), survey-based data, labor statistics programs.
