We are looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of Sustainability Reporting and Data Analyst within our Environmental & Sustainability group based in Houston, TX.
This position will support the Occidental (Oxy) Corporate Sustainability function to meet requirements in areas of environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance data analytics and reporting and other ad-hoc communications/engagements. Working with the Sustainability team, this person will compile analysis, benchmarking and performance reporting based on company policies and data from Oxy systems and from external data sources. The person will support the drafting, review and completion of Oxy’s sustainability and climate reporting and external ESG scorecards and questionnaires, including, but not limited to: ISS, CDP, MSCI, WEF Stakeholder Capitalism Metrics, Sustainalytics, Climate Action 100+, CPA Zicklin index, etc.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administration of ESG data, per requirements of third-party questionnaires and Oxy’s corporate reporting.
- Interpret company policies, standards and operating practices and reporting trends as it relates to Oxy’s programs and to provide guidance to Oxy Management on best practice.
- Analyze ESG data utilizing statistical methods to identify trends and anomalies.
- Collaborate cross functionally and communicate effectively with various departments throughout the organization.
- Undertake research projects and benchmarking analysis as needed on ESG-related topics and themes.
- Provide summaries, evaluations and analysis on relevant policy or market-related CSR and ESG developments and trends.
- Assist with responses to key ESG surveys and ratings agencies and assist with performing ongoing due diligence and regular monitoring of Oxy’s ESG scores.
- Provide reporting and other support for Oxy’s corporate sustainability and climate reports.
- Support the Sustainability team with reporting strategy development and implementation.
- Identify and implement process improvements for reporting and analyzing ESG performance data.
- Assure data validity and all work meets corporate brand standards and quality guidelines.
- Monitor emerging trends/issues to keep at the forefront of sustainability initiatives.
- Other duties, as required.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science, Earth Sciences, or equivalent experience.
- Intermediate skills in MS Excel, PowerPoint and other software for analysis, review and reporting of data.
- Must possess good analytical and quantitative data management skills.
- 2 + year’s experience using corporate data management systems to benchmark and synthesize data and communicate internally trends and insights from corporate sustainability and/or social responsibility sources.
- Knowledge of greenhouse gas emissions, climate-related risks, social and environmental issues, and the NGO landscape.
- Possess strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate complex technical issues to different non-technical audiences.
- Ability to drive continuous improvement, identifying ways for managing sustainability more efficiently and effectively.
- Ability to work with cross-functional teams and manage communication across multiple levels and functional areas of the organization.
- Driven self-starter with a proactive approach and a strong aptitude for quantitative and qualitative analysis, research, and project management.
- Ability to analyze, interpret and visualize data; and recommend action plans based on the analysis.
- Accountable, with a strong sense of ownership and attention to detail.
Desired Qualifications:
- Master’s degree, preferred
- Prior energy, materials, utilities or capital-goods industry experience is preferred.
- Corporate sustainability reporting experience in a multi-national business context is preferred.
- Proficient knowledge and understanding of the application of some or all of the sustainability reporting frameworks, standards and guidelines, including the SASB, IFRS, GRI, TCFD, CSRD, TNFD and Ipieca.
