The Opportunity 

This position works out of our Santa Clara or Sylmar, CA locations with our Global Data Science & Analytics team with the Abbott Medical Device business. You will be responsible for working on complex problems in the field of life-saving implantable medical devices. You will work with different types of data, developing creative ways to analyze and present your results. You will use machine learning, artificial intelligence, statistical modeling, data mining, and visualization techniques to provide analytics solutions to a wide range of challenging projects. As a key member of the team, you will develop solutions to curate and analyze large quantities of medical data. You will work on projects that quantify real-world clinical and economic outcomes of life-saving therapies used in chronic disease states. You will collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders and cross-functional teams.  You will present solutions and insights in concise and effective manner to technical and non-technical audiences. You will work on a diverse team with scientists, analysts, engineers, and physicians on a variety of projects and act as a subject matter expert for data science. You will support preparation of scientific conference presentations and publications. 

 

Main responsibilities will include: 

 

Data Analytics 

  • Curating and analyzing complex healthcare data (such as insurance claims, electronic health records, imaging data, medical device data, etc) 

  • Designing and executing data analyses for real-world evidence generation 

  • Performing integrative analyses of clinical and device data from large patient cohorts 

  • Translating real-world observations into clinical actionable insights using precision medicine, phenotyping, machine learning, and artificial intelligence 

  • Applying scientific knowledge on data modeling, data analytics, predictive algorithms, and other data science principles 

  • Researching and developing AI/ML and Deep Learning algorithms 

  • Solving analytical problems and effectively communicating methodologies and results 

  • Creating dashboards and visualizations of processed data to identify trends 

 

Strategy and Communication 

  • Translating project needs and goals into a data-driven analytical approach 

  • Understanding the context of big data and its implications around privacy 

  • Working autonomously in a fast-paced environment 

  • Collaborating with a broad range of technologists and support personnel both within and outside of Abbott 

  • Supporting digital health and data science initiatives 

  • Preparing protocols and reports, conference presentations, and scientific manuscripts 

  • Communicating with regulatory and reimbursement agencies on study design and results 

  • Presenting complex concepts to internal stakeholders with varied backgrounds 

Required Qualifications 

  • Associates Degree (± 13 years) 

  • Minimum 7 years of experience  

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Ph.D. and 2+ years of experience or MS and 5+ years of experience in biomedical engineering, health sciences, bioinformatics , data science, computer science or related field 

  • Strong data wrangling and analysis skills 

  • Strong knowledge of statistical methods 

  • Experience with analytical software tools such as R, SAS, Python, SQL. Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Databricks is a plus 

  • Experience with big-data architecture, operating systems and tools for big-data analytics 

  • Hands-on knowledge of contemporary machine learning, pattern recognition and data-mining techniques. 

  • Ability to come up with innovative data analysis and presentation strategies 

  • Strong oral and written communication skills 

  • Experience working in healthcare/medicine 

  • Experience working in a regulated environment a plus 

 

     

The base pay for this position is

$86,700.00 – $173,300.00

In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
