About the Role

 

The Data Risk and Governance Manager plays a critical role in supporting the T&C division’s mission to manage data effectively. This position focuses on how data is organized, governed, and utilized within the division to meet both current and future needs. You will be instrumental in assisting the T&C division with assessing, educating, delivering, and implementing data governance strategies in alignment with the ANZ Risk Framework.

 

As part of the broader T&C Business Controls and Governance Team, you will serve as the central point of contact for the entire T&C division. Collaboration is key, and you will work closely with colleagues from the Group Enterprise Data Risk team (framework owners) and T&C business functions to design and execute various initiatives. These will include areas such as document storage, record management, privacy, and ethical data use, along with managing day-to-day operational tasks.

 

Your contributions will directly impact the integrity and compliance of our data management systems, ensuring that data governance risks are effectively managed and aligned with regulatory and internal standards.

What will your day look like?

 

In this role, you will be at the forefront of data governance, reporting, and risk management, driving meaningful change across the organization. You will take ownership of the following key responsibilities:

 

  • Liaison Role: Serve as a key liaison, collaborating closely with Enterprise Data Risk, functions within the T&C division, Business Governance & Controls, ANZ Data Strategy & Management, and the Group to ensure alignment on data risk practices and foster cross-functional collaboration.

  • Metrics and Tools Creation: Develop oversight metrics and tools to assess the effectiveness of data risk frameworks, ensuring compliance with regulatory and internal requirements.

  • Representation: Represent the T&C division in Data Governance/Risk committees, providing expert advice on data risk management and governance to senior stakeholders.

  • Reporting and Presentations: Prepare and present clear, accurate, and relevant reports and papers for senior governance committees (e.g., OREC), ensuring strategic alignment and actionable insights.

  • Control Design Guidance: Provide guidance on the design and implementation of data risk controls, ensuring they are in line with both organizational and regulatory requirements.

  • Data Quality Management: Oversee the management of data quality issues, critical data management, and record retention schedules, ensuring the effectiveness and efficiency of governance processes.

  • Assessment of Data Use: Manage the assessment of T&C data use in various initiatives across the enterprise, focusing on areas such as data management, privacy, ethics, and records management.

To grow and succeed in this role, you will ideally bring the following:

 

  • Strong communication skills: Ability to liaise with all levels of the organization and translate Data Risk & Governance requirements into clear, actionable insights that are easy for the business to understand and implement.

  • Experience in Data Governance and Data Risk management: Expertise in areas such as critical data management, data control design, and accountability models.

  • Knowledge of non-financial risk frameworks: Strong understanding of risk monitoring (CPG230/CPS235), record retention obligations, and privacy regulations.

  • Exceptional ability to simplify complex concepts: Translate complex data-related issues into clear and understandable terms for diverse stakeholders.

  • Relationship-building and collaboration: Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, ensuring effective engagement and collaboration across teams.

  • Attention to detail and problem-solving: A keen eye for detail, critical thinking skills, and the ability to identify trends and solve complex problems.

  • Strategic mindset: Ability to see the bigger picture and focus on continuous improvement to ensure long-term success.

  • Support the Talent & Culture division: Assist in managing and mitigating data risks and ensure compliance with governance standards.

  • Delivery and implementation of the Data Risk & Governance framework: Ensuring that data-related risks are addressed effectively throughout the organization.
