The Opportunity

This position works out of the Pleasanton, CA location in the Heart Failure business within Abbott Medical Devices. Abbott Medical Devices is a global leader in providing life-changing technology for the management and treatment of people living with Heart Failure. We have an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to join our Global Clinical and Regulatory Affairs team within the Heart Failure Division (HFD) as the Director of Clinical Insights Development. This role will focus on developing and executing strategies to generate clinical insights from large internal and external data to drive personalized diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for heart failure by collaborating closely with internal stakeholders (R&D, Marketing, Clinical Affairs, Medical Affairs, Reimbursement) and external stakeholders (researchers, scientists, clinician key opinion leaders). The individual will also be responsible for building and developing a team of scientists with expertise in artificial intelligence (AI) who are curious and interested in making an impact in the diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of people with heart failure.

What You’ll Work On

  • Clinical Insights Strategy: Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for generating clinical insights in alignment with the long-term business goals of the Heart Failure Division.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with internal stakeholders (R&D, Marketing, Clinical Affairs, Medical Affairs, Reimbursement) and external stakeholders (researchers, scientists, clinician key opinion leaders) to gather and analyze clinical data.

  • Team Leadership: Build and lead a team of experts in clinical data analysis, data engineering, and data science. Guide the team in developing machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms to understand heart failure disease progression.

  • Predictive Modeling: Design, develop, and optimize predictive models using ML to solve complex clinical problems, ultimately improving patient outcomes.

  • Infrastructure Development: Collaborate with IT teams to establish the necessary computational infrastructure to support advanced data science algorithms.

  • Data Governance: Collaborate with IT and privacy to ensure compliance of projects with applicable statutes, regulations, and professional standards.

  • External Collaboration: Partner with academic institutions, healthcare providers, and other external entities to access additional data sources and research opportunities.

  • Innovation: Stay current with advancements in ML research and implement relevant technologies to deliver cutting-edge clinical insights.

  • Industry Influence: Maintain an external reputation as a clinical insights expert by presenting at industry meetings, serving on panels, and authoring/reviewing articles for peer-reviewed publications.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in medical or scientific field or an equivalent combination of education and work experience. Doctorate Degree in Biomedical engineering/Computer Sciences/ Data Sciences or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.

  • Minimum 10 years relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience developing advanced ML/AI algorithms preferred.   

  •  Management experience with building data science teams, and operating in a highly regulated medical device environment desirable.

  • Global experience preferred.

The base pay for this position is

$169,300.00 – $338,700.00

In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
