The Data Science and Learning (DSL) Division at Argonne National Laboratory seeks a Predoctoral candidate to participate in projects of strategic national importance in quantum information science. This Predoctoral Appointee will contribute to projects in quantum networking that include architecting large-scale quantum networks and protocols and extending the SeQUeNCe quantum network simulator for supporting these studies.

Quantum Information Science is one of the major initiatives at Argonne, encompassing broad research activities in quantum simulation, sensing, and networking. Argonne National Laboratory is also a founding member of the Chicago Quantum Exchange, an organization that encompasses more than 100 quantum information science researchers and include collaborators from multiple national laboratories, universities, and quantum technology companies. This Predoctoral Appointee will be fully integrated in this interdisciplinary research team.

Position Requirements

  • We require a recent or soon-to-be completed Masters in computer science, electrical engineering, applied physics, or a related discipline
  • Interest and experience in quantum information science
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: orchestration of network experiments, discrete-event simulation of quantum networks, and open-source software development
  • Experience in software-defined networking, or experience in large-scale code development in Python, C, C++, or a similar language would be a plus
  • Ability to model Argonne's core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork

The expected hiring range for this position is $58,656.00-$92,273.00.

The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as, but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, business considerations, internal equity, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
