Lecturer/Senior Lecturer (Cloud and Data Centre) – School of Engineering

[What the role is]
We are seeking a highly qualified and motivated Lecturer/Senior Lecturer to join our teaching team in the areas of Cloud Architecting and and Data Center Design and Management. The ideal candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality teaching, conducting applied research, and working on industry-driven projects. This role requires expertise in cloud infrastructure, devOps, data pipelines, and modern data center technologies to equip students and industry professionals with the necessary skills for the evolving digital infrastructure landscape.

[What you will be working on]

Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Curriculum Development

• Develop and deliver high-quality courses in Virtualization, Cloud Architecture, Data Engineering, and Data Center Management, ensuring alignment with industry standards and emerging technologies.

• Design and update curriculum, course materials, and hands-on labs to foster practical, industry-relevant learning experiences.

• Conduct interactive lectures, workshops, and assessments to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.

• Mentor students in developing technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills in cloud computing, big data processing, and sustainable data center management.

Industry Collaboration & Project Supervision

• Lead industry-aligned projects in cloud computing, AI/data engineering, and data center digital twins, bridging academia and real-world applications.

• Collaborate with industry partners to integrate case studies, project-based learning, and internship opportunities into the curriculum.

• Supervise student projects and internships, providing guidance on multi-cloud strategies, edge computing, green data centers, and AI-driven data engineering.

Research & Innovation

• Conduct applied research in cloud-native architectures, distributed data processing, digital twins for data centers, and energy-efficient computing solutions.

• Secure external funding through grants and industry partnerships to support research initiatives.

• Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and conferences, contributing to academic and industry knowledge.

• Drive innovation in sustainable data center technologies, focusing on energy efficiency and digital transformation.

Institutional & Professional Engagement

• Actively participate in academic committees, school meetings, and student engagement initiatives.

• Support institutional efforts in digital transformation, cybersecurity, and sustainable computing.

• Pursue continuous professional development to stay abreast of technological advancements and industry trends.

[What we are looking for]

Requirements

• Technical Expertise:

  • Proven expertise in AWS Cloud solutions, including multi-cloud architectures, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), cloud networking, and security best practices.

  • Hands-on experience managing DevOps environments, ETL pipelines, data lakes, real-time data processing, and distributed computing systems.

  • Knowledge of data center design & management, including cooling solutions, power distribution, green data center initiatives, and sustainability metrics/reporting.

  • Familiarity with MLOps and experience in building, deploying, and managing machine learning pipelines.

• Education & Certifications:

  • Relevant qualification in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related engineering field.

  • Professional cloud certification (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Google Professional Cloud Architect, or Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect).

• Soft Skills & Additional Competencies:

  • Passion for teaching, training, and mentoring students and professionals.

  • Strong problem-solving skills with an interest in applied research (preferred).

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively as a team player.
