Overview

The Data Architect, Sr plays a pivotal role in designing, implementing, and maintaining enterprise-level data architecture solutions that enable high-performance data analytics, integration, and governance. This role is responsible for establishing data standards, developing data models, and overseeing the overall data infrastructure strategy to support A-dec’s analytics and business intelligence needs. In partnership with data analysts/engineers, development teams, and business stakeholders, they ensure data solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned with organizational goals.

This hybrid position also assumes hands-on responsibilities in data engineering, ensuring robust, efficient data pipelines and platforms are in place to support analytics and operational workloads. This person has a strong background in data architecture, data modeling, cloud data platforms, and modern data integration tools.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops and maintains enterprise-wide data architecture standards, practices, and blueprints.
  • Designs, implements, and optimizes scalable, secure, and reliable data platforms, including data lakes and cloud data warehouses (e.g., Snowflake, Azure Data Solutions).
  • Leads efforts to modernize data infrastructure, including evaluating and implementing data tools and technologies.
  • Develops and enforces data governance frameworks, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and regulatory requirements for data quality, privacy, and security.
  • Authors and maintains comprehensive data policies and standards that govern data integrity, access controls, classification, retention, and compliance across all data systems and environments.
  • Translates business requirements into conceptual, logical, and physical data models.
  • Ensures data architecture supports both structured and unstructured data, including real-time and batch processing pipelines.
  • Defines and documents data flows, mappings, and lineage to support compliance and transparency.
  • Guides and mentors data engineers and analysts in best practices for data management and architecture.
  • Evaluates and implements new technologies and tools to improve data management and analytics capabilities.
  • Works with application programming interface (API) developers and IT teams to ensure seamless data exchange between platforms and applications.
  • Participates in data quality initiatives, including setting standards for data validation, cleansing, and enrichment.
  • Supports integration of external and third-party data sources with enterprise systems.
  • Aligns data architecture strategies with enterprise IT and security frameworks.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Expertise in cloud data platforms such as Azure, Snowflake, or Databricks.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical thinking, and communication skills.
  • Strong command of SQL and data modeling practices & tools (e.g., Coalesce or dbt).
  • In-depth understanding of data lake, data warehouse, and data mesh architectures.
  • Proficient in programming or scripting languages such as Python or SQL.
  • Proficient in API integration and event-driven architectures.
  • Deep knowledge and hands-on experience with structured, semi-structured, and unstructured databases and data assets.
  • Deep knowledge and hands-on experience with ETL/ELT pipelines and orchestration tools (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Apache Airflow).
  • Familiar with data governance, metadata management, and data security practices.
  • Able to lead cross-functional teams and influence technical direction.
  • Comfortable working in Agile/Scrum environments.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5-7 years of experience in data architecture, with a total of 10+ years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, or a related field.
  • Relevant certifications in cloud architecture, data engineering, or data management (e.g., Azure Solutions Architect, SnowPro).
  • Proven experience designing and implementing enterprise data solutions and data integration strategies.
  • Prior experience leading data initiatives or architecture design projects at scale
  • Experience with data lake architecture, Iceberg, Parquet, or Delta Lake.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Familiar with Azure ML, Synapse, and related services.
  • Knowledge of Snowflake Snowpark, Cortex, or similar analytics frameworks.
  • Experience with iPaaS platforms and low-code/no-code data integration tools.
  • Exposure to real-time data processing frameworks (e.g., Kafka, Spark Streaming).
  • Understanding of lambda and kappa data architectures.
