Collects, organizes, and interprets data to help inform the decisions that shape the future of our organization. Creates and maintains interactive dashboards that contain a variety of data visualizations and key performance indicators (KPls) designed to meet the needs of the end user and inform decisions at the highest levels of the division. Responsible for linking data from multiple internal sources as well as importing and linking data from external sources. Integrates concepts and data from various sources such as Google Analytics, Salesforce, CPD platforms, and internal systems such as Slate and Banner. Performs the evaluation and testing of data and reports received from other offices, establishes automatic data verification, resolves data discrepancies, creates queries, and develops standard and ad hoc reports.
Data Analysis and Data Visualization
- Works on a variety of projects analyzing marketing, admissions, enrollment, academic program, and other student data.
- Designs and maintains automated reports and interactive dashboards to inform business decisions using Microsoft Power BI, Google Looker, RStudio, Tableau, and other data visualization applications.
- Organizes results and conclusions of data analysis for use and presentation by departmental leaders.
- Develops overall subject matter expertise regarding internal and external data sources that support departmental mission.
- Provides guidance and technical advice to departmental customers in the areas of data visualization and reporting.
- Remains current and learns new skills and software applications as tools and data analysis needs change over time.
- Coordinates testing of new releases of data analysis and visualization applications to identify impacts to and across data libraries and/or databases to ensure data integrity.
Data Collection from Internal and External Sources
- Designs and maintains complex SQL queries to pull data from institutional relational databases that can be packaged as data sources for data analysis and visualizations. Joins disparate data sources and establishes procedures to conduct regular data sampling and full data comparison on divisional and other data sets. Automates repetitive tasks by writing clean and tested code that can be maintained and extended by other analysts.
- Contributes to data analysis and data visualization needs via ETL (extract, transform, load) procedures to translate raw data into user-friendly formats, trend analyses, static and interactive graphs.
- Collects and assists with the analysis of relevant data from external data sources such as the U.S. Department of Education Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS).
- Merges data from external and internal databases and makes correlations across merged data sets.
- Uses independent judgment to research and problem-solve data collection discrepancies and irregularities.
Implementation, maintenance, and documentation of the internal reporting processes
- Timely and accurate generation and dissemination of standard and on demand reports for use by departmental units. Must be able to respond ad hoc to requests accurately and quickly.
- Automates repetitive (standard) reports.
- Consults with clients to understand data needs and develops tools to collect and deliver requested information.
- Develops and maintains procedures to improve accuracy and efficiency of data querying, report generation, and data dissemination processes.
- Identifies data discrepancies and addresses data quality issues to ensure consistency and integrity of data collection and reporting.
- Maintains departmental documentation for data definitions, a query catalog, sources of data and operation procedures for routine departmental processes.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Analytics, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Computational Social Science, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of one (1) years of experience in data analysis and visualization, reporting, or statistical analysis.
- Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without need now or in the future for sponsorship for employment visa status.
- Two or more years of experience in analytics and data visualization, reporting, or statistical analysis.
- Experience working in a higher education setting.
- Experience working with marketing, admissions, enrollment, academic program, and other student data.
- Experience with complex data sets including manipulating, merging, restructuring, and analyzing large data sets.
- Demonstrated successful management of multiple short-term and long-term projects, independent completion of projects with accuracy, thoroughness and creativity, and timely meeting of deadlines under pressure.
Preferred Qualifications
- Education: Master's degree in Business Analytics, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Computational Social Science, or a related field.
