Job Summary
Responsibilities
Ensure timely processing and review of clinical NGS data from patient samples processed in the Clinical Genomics Laboratory.
Leading implementation of novel software and pipelines to facilitate assay development and translational science studies.
Identification and implementation of efficiencies in existing processes and pipelines.
Analysis, display and interpretation of genomic data to support clinical development, including creation of validation summary documentation in accordance with Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) guidelines.
Ensuring proper maintenance, organization, and backup of clinical laboratory data on on-site high performance computing cluster systems.
Participation in translational research studies within the Clinical Genomics Laboratory, in collaboration with GMP faculty and other investigators. Includes experimental design, pipeline development, novel software engineering, custom data analysis, data integration, authorship and presentation.
Mentor junior Bioinformaticians on the team.
Assisting with pathology resident and fellow education in bioinformatics.
Participates in creating data algorithms and specialized computer software to identify and classify components of a biological system (i.e. DNA and protein sequences).
Applies basic application of computational tools and information technology to gather, analyze and visualize data in biology and biomedical research.
Interprets data analysis of high throughput genomics, proteomics and genetic data.
Plans own resources to implement or modify existing web-based bioinformatics tools.
Develop programs to perform analyses and generate both routine and ad hoc reports.
Guides with researchers to analyze problems, recommend technology-based solutions, or determine computational strategies.
Designs and perform formal evaluation of informatics methods and products.
Manipulates publicly accessible, commercial, or proprietary genomic, proteomic, or post-genomic databases.
Performs other related work as needed.

Preferred Qualifications
Education:
Master’s or PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or related field.
Experience:
Experience and proficiency in Python, R, Bash, MySQL
Experience working in a Clinical Laboratory.
Strong computing skills and Linux experience, with software development experience in multiple programming languages, including Python and R.
Next generation sequencing bioinformatics knowledge, preferentially with previous cancer and clinical laboratory experience.
Strong scientific data analysis and presentation skills.
Strong knowledge of next generation sequencing methodology and data analysis.
Prior experience working with large-scale datasets using high performance computing environment.
Working Conditions
Lab environment.
Weekend/Evening hours: Flexibility with occasional work on weekends for clinical sample processing is expected.
