Director, Commercial Data Management and Governance

Introduction to role

The Director of Commercial Data Management & Governance will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of data management strategies, governance frameworks, and Master Data Management (MDM) practices to ensure data quality, integrity, and compliance. This role will collaborate with multi-functional teams to enhance data utilization and drive business insights that support strategic decision-making. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in data management and a proven track record of implementing effective data operations..

Accountabilities

• Data Governance: Develop and enforce data governance policies, standards, and practices across the organization.
• Master Data Management (MDM):
  • Establish and oversee MDM processes to ensure consistency and accuracy of critical business data across systems.
  • Lead initiatives to define, manage, and maintain master data entities, including customers, products, and suppliers.
  • Implement MDM tools and technologies to automate and streamline data management processes.
• Data Operations:
  • Oversee day-to-day data operations, ensuring efficient data processing and management practices.
  • Monitor and enhance data management workflows to improve operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with IT and data engineering teams to support data integration and pipeline development.
• Data Strategy: Define and execute a comprehensive data management strategy that aligns with business objectives.
• Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of data management professionals, fostering a culture of excellence and accountability.
• Collaboration: Work closely with IT, sales, marketing, and compliance teams to ensure effective data lifecycle management.
• Data Quality Assurance: Establish metrics and processes for monitoring data quality, implementing corrective actions where necessary.
• Compliance: Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements related to data privacy and protection (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).
• Training and Education: Develop training programs to promote data literacy and awareness among employees.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as the primary point of contact for data-related inquiries and initiatives, effectively communicating with stakeholders at all levels.

Essential Skills/Experience

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Data Science, Business Administration, Information Technology)
• Experience: 10+ years of hands-on experience in data management, governance, or a related field, preferably in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry.
• Technical Skills: Strong understanding of data governance frameworks, master data management principles, data quality, and data management tools (e.g., ETL, data warehousing, BI tools).
• Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead and motivate cross-functional teams, with excellent project management capabilities.
• Analytical Mentality: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to leverage data for strategic insights.
• Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely.

Desirable Skills/Experience

• Master’s degree
• Experience with advanced analytics, data visualization tools, and data architecture.
• Knowledge of relevant regulations and compliance standards in the pharmaceutical industry.
