Roche Sequencing is developing ground-breaking next-generation sequencing products that allow scientists/clinicians powerful new avenues to investigate DNA, the blueprint of any lifeforms, in days, giving them the ability to understand health conditions such as cancer, HIV, COVID19 and more! We are not only changing science but changing lives through the development of frontier technologies that accelerate personalized healthcare.

Your leadership will shape the development and integration of GPU and other accelerated computing technologies into our next-generation healthcare solutions.

The Opportunity:  

  • Lead and mentor a team of 10  engineers specializing in GPU computing, AI/ML acceleration, and high-performance computing (HPC). (People leader responsibilities including performance reviews)

  • Drive innovation and strategic adoption of emerging accelerated computing technologies to meet business and technical goals.

  • Oversee the design, development, and optimization of high-performance algorithms and software for accelerated computing platforms (e.g., CUDA, OpenCL, SYCL).

  • Ensure adherence to industry best practices, including Agile methodologies, Design Control processes, and compliance with regulatory standards.

  • Partner with internal teams, including bioinformatics, data science, hardware, and software engineering, to integrate accelerated compute solutions into end-to-end workflows.

  • Engage with external partners, vendors, and stakeholders to explore and implement new technologies.

  • Define and execute the vision and roadmap for accelerated computing within Roche, aligning with organizational objectives and emerging trends.

  • Advocate for scalable, adaptable, and reusable engineering solutions to ensure efficiency and innovation.

  • Foster a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning within the team.

  • Manage budgets, timelines, and resources to deliver high-quality outcomes.

Who You Are:

  • You have a Bachelor's or advanced degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field

  • You have 10+ years of experience in high-performance computing, GPU acceleration or Software Engineering,  or Bioinformatics  or related fields,

  • You have 5 years in a leadership role.

  • You have strong proficiency in C++ (C++17/20) and Python, with experience in multi-threaded and parallel programming.

  • You have knowledge of algorithm frameworks such as Boost, Thrust, or TBB.

  • You have familiarity with cloud platforms and containerized environments (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) for deploying accelerated workloads.

  • You have proven ability to lead engineering teams, delivering on complex, cross-functional projects.

  • You have proven Project Management capabilities

  • You  have a track record of engaging with executive stakeholders and technical teams.

Preferred:

  • Master's/PhD 

  • You have expertise in GPU programming (CUDA, OpenCL) and frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar

  • Experience in the healthcare, life sciences, or biopharmaceutical industry.

  • Knowledge of Quality System Regulations (QSR), cGMP, or ISO standards.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Santa Clara, CA is $184,400-1342,400.  Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.  A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.
